I like how they went from surviving in a land unfamiliar to most, to summoning and fighting celestial entities. Quite a jump from the basic survival they used to do 😂 I kinda appreciate that aspect though ngl, makes a lot of variety in playstyles possible. You can either play to survive, or play to uncover mysteries and get stronger. Very few games I know can do that

Most of these I'm not sure about. The inventor may be anything from someone merely reckless, who would repeat the very mistake that the insect civilization that made the ruins made if not stopped, of using far, FAR too much Darkness magic/nightmare fuel without any MoonLight magic to balance it out...to someone who WANTS to destroy the world (his comment regarding the aporcalypes calendar is that he could use it to end the world faster...) Not sure what charlie is doing in the archives, I thought she was going to try and find a way to devour the moon's power for her own-perhpas the players interruped that plan? As for the eye on the moon, I can answer that. It is not on the moon, it is IN the moon. Where the shadows are lesser things of Insanity and Darkness, and the Gestalts are lesser things of Light and Enlightenment, and the shadow throne seems to be...if not the very source of Insanity and Darkness itself, very strongly tied to it... That thing is an eldritch Source of Light and Enlightenment. Its power has long been leaking out through fissures on the moon, its tentacles stretching to the surface, in cycles we can see from the surface-a counterpart to the nightmare fissures found in the ruins and their nightmare cycle. And remember, light=/= good... Enlightenment and Insight can be very dangerous things in worlds like Don't Starve and Bloodborne...
