My husband helps our elderly widowed neighbor as much as he can. Odd jobs like keeping her mower going and if she loses power he will go hook her generator up for her refrigerator. She pays us occasionally in pies! She makes the best banana cream! 😂

This has been one of my exact issues this year, other people trying to enforce their ideas of how and when things should be done. It has really been stressing me out but I was reflecting on how its best if possible to tune people like that out, they're not worth the stress. I love going at my own pace. Edit: one of my petty tyrants was also gardening related! I rent an allotment and despite being there all winter preparing it, the site manager accused me of 'emigrating' because he hadnt seen me for a couple of weeks when I had a cough. He reports people to the council to get them kicked off if he doesn't think you're there enough so it really upset me at the time, but he's an idiot so I'm not going to let him get to me.

You've mentioned about downsizing, instead of buying fake flowers to put in the empty container, just get rid of the container. Just because it's empty doesn't mean you need to use it.

I so agree! We live in a year round hot humid climate, and it has always been a job to keep the landscape and plants cared for. We decided a few years ago to just stop replacing all the things that die and require constant maintenance and $$. We gave away pots, garden tools, and supplies to neighbors who still enjoy gardening. We have simplified, and are actually enjoying our out door spaces so much more. We have a few trees and shrubs, and a few decorative pots for seasonal plants that are easy and a pleasure to change a few times a year. We also have dogs and are cautious regarding toxic plants and all the pesticides and fertilizers. We enjoy our coffee and meals outside, so we keep a nice seating and small dining area. Less is truly more. Having just enough to create a beautiful relaxing home is a blessing. We wish we had kept life simpler as a younger couple. We find we are having to release so much that we thought we wanted or needed, but in reality it’s all just stuff that keeps us busy, distracted from what really matters, and then the decluttering and downsizing is depressing and exhausting.

They're all pretty busy and rarely come over. I usually end up going to their house. 😊 I can enjoy it though. I find it very peaceful out there.

The fuscia flowers always remind me of dancing ballerinas. I would go ahead and get the pressure washing done and that will make a big difference in how things look. The HOA can really be a big Pain. I"m like you, as far as you need to have time as an older person to get things done. My home insurance was not renewed, and I only had 22 days to find another company, but I did get some today but got a call that they will come out to inspect the outside of my property. Now my property is neat and tidy but I'm sure they are going to find something to tell me I have to fix or change. I think sometimes people just want to make people jump through their hoops. Hang in there, take it slowly. Your garden area is getting there, work your own pace. Today I set up my little bubbler fountain and I can hear it from my bedroom, so relaxing. Love your fountain as well.

Hi Ellen, I too, if I have leftover "hot" coffee from my morning, I will refrigerate it, and turn it into iced coffee for the afternoon. Never do I pour it out!!! 😄 ☕️ Your dogs are so cute! I do not do well with the heat & humidity. I have a health issue with my heart & one of my meds causes me to react to the heat. I had asked my cardiologist & that was what he told me & the vehicle I use does not have air.😢 so I try to go early I the morning shopping etc.

No they used to tear up the grassy area and turned it into mud. I can't walk 3 dogs, and they get very upset when they're separated so I can't walk them one at a time either.

Oh...the delicate pale pink fuchsia is my favorite. Inspires me to have myself a little tea party. How big is the HOA list? I thought it was only the power washing and correcting the boundary line. Tell HOA you have to go slow due to your back issues (truth) and will hopefully be finished by October. Offer to get them a doctor's note. 😁 I wish I could eat lettuce like your pooches eat lettuce.......without salad dressing❣️

I wrote them an email but I haven't heard anything back from them. I'm just still working on getting rid of extra pots and things I'm not using. Redoing the "fence" will be the last thing. It'll take as long as it takes.
