I'm a 28 year old chef, started culinary school when I was 16, and all along my journey Gordon Ramsay has been a major source of inspiration for me. However, there are some things I want to point out for those of you who are thinking of becoming a chef because I think its important to know so that YOU dont waste your time. 1. "I LOVE COOKING I SHOULD BECOME A CHEF" Please realise, that cooking professionally is entirely different to cooking at home. You don't get get to choose what you want to cook. You will have to cook food you dont even like. 2. SUPPLY AND DEMAND. "normal" food will always be far higher in demand than the kind of gourmet michellin food you see on Gordons tv shows. Chefs are gonna have to cook this. Why? Because money. 3. TIME IS MONEY. You dont have the same time frame as you do at home, meaning you have to hurry the fuck up, meaning less and/or little to no time to enjoy the actual cooking part. 4. PREP/SHITTY JOBS. Peeling onions and such for literally hours on end. Its not much fun really. 5. GOODBYE FRIENDS AND FAMILY. Yes, you will be working when everybody else is off work. Holidays included. 6. "WORKAHOLIC" Most likely this diagnose will be forced upon you wether you like it or not. It is not uncommon for chefs to work far more hours than most jobs. For the moment being I average around 220 hours a month. 7. CALLING IN SICK. This VERY RARELY happens. You go to work even if you are sick. If you are lucky (hasnt yet happend to me) the head chef will show you mercy and tell you to fuck off and come back tomorrow. 8. HIERARCHY. Much like in the army, there is a hierarchy in the kitchen. For a period of time you are going to be at the bottom of it. Sometimes it gets ugly. 9. GORDON RAMSAY. Arguably, Gordons rise to fame was partly due to what most people might call a "bad temper" and it's exposure to the public. In reality, his temper is very normal when compared to other chefs. You will personally experience exactly what you have seen Gordon say or do to people on TV. Forget what you know about common decency, it does not always apply in a kitchen. If you make mistakes, someone sure as shit will tell you, and chances are it will not be a fun experience for you. You will remember and learn from this. 10. WORK FOR FREE. If you really really REALLY have a burning desire to cook gourmet food and want to do this as fast as possibly, you can get a job at a restaurant that has a michellin star(s). However, it is not uncommon to work FOR FREE in such restaurants. At least not for a period of time, untill you actually become usefull. Depending on the restaurant, this might take some time. I wanted to do this, but financially it simply wasnt an option for me.

Thanks for the advice, I'm 17 years old now and I learn culinary at school, I applied to culinary school because my parents force me, and during the school I don't do anything seriously, then I had to do trainneship, in my trainneship anything it's not like what I expected it's totally like what've you said, And I do lot of mistakes, it was really bad experience, and then I started to regret about why did I follow my parents, and everything is change, In my 12th class, my last class in high school, my desire to be a professional chef that can handle taste, appearance, and process comes out, I believe it's not too late. And I'm gonna do my best.

3:55 is hilarious. I watch all Ramsay's shows and I love how he gets irritated over the smallest fuck ups lol. Ramsay reacting harshly is actually good for those who train under him because the people learn what NOT to do. Whenever they make a mistake in front of him and he instantly reacts with anger is actually a GOOD thing....that *MOMENT* will stick with them forever....so they become masters at making sure it never happens again in the future. This also makes them better and improve their skill. There are too many soft, sensitive, sissies nowadays that feel entitled as if they can't be put into place. If you really want to achieve something great, be willing to take Feedback in the way Ramsay gives it.

Thank you for making this video guys. I thoroughly enjoyed all of Gordon Ramsey's rules for success. It's a nice change to see the other side of this very inspiring gentleman. There were so many key points he made that I felt were valuable nuggets of information. Knowledge and the importance of learning it, and sharing it with people, passing it on to other team members. Customer is key, and without them, we would have nothing. This is paramount, and I certainly do my best to show gratitude, and appreciation by engaging and exceeding their expectations. Attention to detail and not cutting corners. This is something I do well and pride myself on. Never...Ever...Ever Give Up. This is always great to hear, especially when things get a little heavy. I also like what Gordon mentioned about the way he copes with nerves when he's competing, and thinks about delectable dishes. I do the same thing and shift my focus to visualizing new designs, and working with textures and materials. Having passion for what you do is the best feeling ever. Many of days, I bounce out of bed, and run straight into my studio to jump back into my project. I have my daily routine, but it's that whole balance/chaos thing you talk about Evan. Haha! I loved the part when he talks about his parents not having enough money for his whites and a nice set of cutlery. Very humble beginnings and no wonder why he is such a success, and genuinely happy. He remembers his roots. I probably could have just mentioned one of Gordon Ramsay's top 10 rules for success, but they're all so great! What he said about keeping it local and building a great repport with people and customers. Once that is established, then you can take it up a notch. When success comes gradually, and over a longer period of time, I feel it's more stable. Gordon Ramsay is a super neat guy and would love to sit down with him over a great meal, and pick his brain =D. Thank you so much for sharing guys, and keep up the great work...#BTA15

I've been looking to switch career to some kinda supportive healthcare like physiotherapy, personal training or acupressure but I've thought of going straight into higher training like physiotherapy or chinese medicine instead of massager and personal trainer training first. First advice is the best. He is so right about getting knowledge and experience from the best people in the industry. Do not work for weak guys, because they offer you 400$ more. He is so good on that one :)

I am a fan of Gordon and I love his professionalism, his dedication towards excellence, curiosit , perseverance and tenacity. There are so many qualities gathered in one man! For me, Gordon Ramsey represents the culinary flag fallowed by those who want to reach their goal at some point in life. He is a great leader. His recipes will live over the years. However, people are intimidated by his behavior. The poor waiter is so scared in Gordon's presence. In role playing has Gordon been better behaved than the young man? I don't think so. He was sharp with the "clients" and no one looked relaxed in his presence. I think you need real courage to be Gordon's student. His aggressive behavior is famous too. I feel so sorry for those who work in his kitchen. Their expectancy life will be shortened. But..that is the price you pay for excellence!!!!

I agree with Gordon, I have been way too comfortable with my mum and dad, and I have decided to move to France possibly within the next year. I currently work at restaurant and it's great but I have to get out of here and go to another country and experience different cuisine.

i work in a hotel with 3 chefs and 2 sou chefs and no one wants to take the time to train me how to do prep, I keep asking everyday if I can help prep because I want to be a chef in my own restaurant. so instead of waiting for them to actually train me I decided i'm going to culinary school so I can learn a lot. I love cooking food but right now i'm extremely limited on knowledge I can only make like 7 dishes but they are basic dishes for now. but I started a lot later then ramsay did i'm currently 28 but I wont give up. I was thinking when I plan to open my restaurant (not sure when it will happen) to do like a local survey of the people who live in the area what they like to eat so I can open a restaurant with a lot of stuff they love while putting in a few dishes that I love too and hope it balances. only time shall tell.

Sorry, I don't know the track. It's usually added by our editor and comes from free music provided by KZbin here: kzbin.infomusic or it's a part of the source video, the link is in the description box. If you're thinking about our #Entspresso tune, it's "Morning" - created by Xeno Carr for the #Entspresso Series, you might want to check out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/en-zgX1-bcp5orc Thanks for watching! @Gordon Ramsay Chef Ramsay, I am not a chef, but I take photos for food too. I really like the food in good restaurant. I am lucky to eat food in michelin star restaurant but most of my friends can not get access to these food, I take photos to share amazing food for them and change their impression on foreign cusine. In a word, not all people take photos in restaurant are chefs. Personally speaking, I take photos for food because I got a good time in the restaurant.
