You can also reuse hardened silicon to clean abrasive discs, sanding paper etc. Plenty of other uses for it.

hardened silicone sealant is great for cleaning sanding disks and belts.Make a block of it and use like the shop built item.

Want to keep open silicone caulk tubes almost forever? Put them in the freezer. It won’t harden in the tip or the tube. I’ve kept them alive for over two years that way. Works with most kinds of caulk and oil based paints as well.

Also works for most glues. If you're fed up throwing away cyanoacrylate glue tubes which are used 1/4, 2 advice: - Store it in the fridge. Never tried the freezer - Buy small 1ml tubes, because even in the frige the cap will end up glued. It helps, but it's not magic

I put a paintbrush into the freezer overnight one time, the stench from that thought me a good lesson: never do that again!

That's a good trick! One thing I do when I know I will not be using it for a while is to tape a 12" piece of 3/8" plastic tubing on the tip and squeeze the plunger until the silicone or adhesive comes out the tip of the tubing then seal the end good. I have gotten 6, or 8 months of storage out of it before the caulk hardens down into the tip.

Great idea. I have at least two half filled tubes of caulking that have harden. I was thinking or purchasing those caps that are available on Amazon. They will effectively do same thing as your idea, but they are really expensive for what they are.

You have a pretty good idea for the uncured silicone. "reuse dried silicone" is not what you did. Your commenters made a good start though. Without your video, the others would help us actually reuse the hardened silicone.

ranges from $3-$8 here (most being at the upper end of that!), but that doesn't count the time it takes to realize that the tube I have is semi-hardened, drive to the store, get a new one, and drive home. This is a much easier way of dealing with that situation.
