I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Good video Matt. I've been using dental floss threaders for years. Also called dental bridge threaders. Waaay safer for kids and they hold more stoppers than a needle depending on the brand... quite a few more.

Holy shit. Idc if this is a year late. I had the issue the other day where I just bought my first pack of stops. I was rigging a micro texas for my bf. I used the stop for the weight and i end up smacking my fishing bag and breaking the line with the stop off the main line. Luckily no parts were lost but a bobber stop because i couldnt reuse it. Second go around i was rigging the texas again and my hand slipped (something made me jump) causing the stop to get pulled off. Finally the third time was the charm and is going 2nd week strong but i went through 3 in a day and was upset I didnt have a way to use them again. Thank you so much for this. I have a wife that sews so ill just rob her needle box

You're right Matt, save every penny you can! Years ago when I was building race cars, when hulling out a body or stripping down a frame, the old saying was "ounces make pounds". In this case, pennies make dollars. If something retains it's functionality, why not reuse it!

Good video. I had other ways but this is easier. One of my favorite uses for them is under the hook on a drop shot to help keep it up and not wrap in the sinker portion of the line as bad.

Dude, this is genius. One way I have been trying to do it, is when I go to take my rig off my line i'll tie a short piece of braid maybe 20 inches long with an alberto knot to the line below the bobber stop and then slide the stop down the line to my extra peice. And like with how you do with the needle, ill save that line that has a few bobber stops on it and retie the end of it to my main line and slide them up above the knot and then cut it. Then i'll be good to go to make a new rig. The only problem with doing it like i do is the amount of time it takes sometimes to tie the extra knots to slide the bobber stops up and down from the keeper line to my main line.
@MattStefanFishing
@MattStefanFishing 2 жыл бұрын
that sounds like it works as well. I like with mine at the end of a day of fishing i can slide them all onto a needle and put the needle in my tackle box for the next time i need them.
@redfishrambo5761
@redfishrambo5761 2 жыл бұрын
@@MattStefanFishing Yea the needle sounds a little more simple than what i've been doing. Same idea, just more efficient. I save my line with the stops but it's easy to get tangled in a tackle bag or lose unless you have a small pouch for it. I'm gonna give the needle a shot in the future.

Excellent tip. I seen Bill Lowen in a video on recycling the bobber stops. Just do a over hand knot not clinched on main line and have a used one still on scrap line. Slip the scrap line into the over hand knot tighten it down on the line moisten and slip the bobber stop over the knot on your main line.

How's that work? Are you putting it back on the same way you're taking one off? If so, does it lead to stretching out the inside of the bobber stop? Just curious, because I was thinking about making a couple of yours, because it sounds a little easier to grab. lol. Thank you for sharing.

I reuse my bobber stops also. But I just put them back on the lil rig they come on. Just take the wire they come on, pinch the opening that your line goes thru closed, slide the stop back on the wire and then just open up the wire again for your line to go in.

If you cut off the stop with enough line, you can tie a loose overhand knot in it, run your new line through the knot, tighten down, and run the stop over the knot, onto the new line. Safer than a needle. Just be sure to make the knot on the correct line. I made the mistake last weekend, and made the knot on the NEW line, and the stop never transferred over. The lines just slipped apart. 😄

When changing rigs with a bobber stop,with out a needle ,I would cut off at the connection leave a short length of line form a overhand knot ,wet the line slide the stop over the knot leaving part of the loop of line were you now can reconnect by placing your li e through the loop wet the loop slide the stop onto your line again reconnect

I always take the line that has the bobber stop make an overhand knot with it then put the new line new line going through the knot then pull the bobber stop down over the knot onto the new line

That's a great tip! I go through bobber stops like I'm trying to waste them on purpose. But I just use the original wires that the bobber stops came on. Just poke your line through the hole, then tie an over hand knot or clench knot with a long enough tag end that you can grab so that you can easily undo it, and slide the bobber stop back where it came from. Then just undo the knot you made and you're all set. It works pretty good for me.
