This is the 2nd video in a series on the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene
The Laws of Power offers detailed examples of both obtaining and wielding power as well as defending yourself from power players Power is still the currency of the world order. No one ever devours to seem lusting for power, nor do we wish to be powerless. Wether you distrust the powerful or admire them, we all know that to have any respect, agency, and freedom you too will need influence, wealth, resources, and power. Robert Moores book on the 48 Laws of Power offers insightful demonstrations of the different dimensions of attaining and welding power. The book often gets a bad reputation by those that hate power players that use their positions of power to thier own benefit or against the benefit of others.

Can you think of other examples of the application of this law, in reality or fiction? Have you ever hired or fired a friend? Don’t forget to add a comment for a chance to win a free copy of The 48 Laws of Power.

I have never fired a friend, just enemies (directly and indirectly) and I have to say, it was very rewarding. Easy to understand why power can be addictive. The few friends that I have managed to get jobs to I never have placed under myself in the hierarchy, just close to but under different vertical management so even though some attitudes and behaviors from them did manage to get me irritated it never escalated to the point of firing them, but the intention did light up. A part of me never would want to do it despite it. But a small part would, just to put the power in display. A weird inner contradiction, but one that always ruled in favor of the friends because the company sucked and I myself did not want to be in there for long, so in the end even if I had done, at most it would be a worthless sacrifice for a puny goal or something, so not worth it.

I have fired a friend, applying the first law when I was in highschool I was a member of the student government and constantly was getting shafted for the position I had been working hard to get. So one night I began to take notes while watching GOT and started applying the principals from that show and ended up securing a very powerful position and appointed friends into different positions but whenever they got cocky or arrogant towards me I'd leverage my authority over the disciplinary council to punish and remove them from their position.

As I said in your first video of this series, I was looking forward to see the next law depicted in your view, narration and story telling and boy how it paid off. Again, amazing video, very well put together, with nice examples and great to watch. Didn't even look like it was 22 minutes, like a flow state, passed on a breeze. Looking forward for the next, cheers from Brazil

I recently saw a Chinese movie based on the classic folk tale, JOURNEY TO THE WEST, that uses the principle of turning an enemy into a friend. Very interesting principle, though I admit that there was a part of me that wished the villain hadn’t gotten a free pass, thereby escaping justice.
