My wife is a member of a lot of sewing groups and word's got around that the images Temu uses to sell goods are stolen from groups of that nature. They sell a product which is not of the same quality as that in the images. I know before it launched that the sheer amount of ad dollars they were spending was a huge red flag. Good on you for not taking money from them. It's not worth the money if subscribers get scammed after you endorse a company or product. For Angelika and everyone who wants to avoid buying books online from Amazon and support independent, small local bookstores instead, I can't recommend Allibris & Abebooks enough! You can even get books at a competitive pricing because you choose who to buy from out of several offers, which is great for us who don't have a lot of money! Only con is if you don't live in the US-UK like myself, you have to be patient cause shipping takes longer than Amazon's instant gratification, but at least it's not as long of a wait as Temu/Shein/Wish and their clones 😂

The problem I'm seeing with these types of sites.. You're right, they're unethical and bad for the environment. But from the people I know who use these sites, it's because it's affordable and we live in a time where life is far too expensive. So I can't blame people for that. Influencers have the money, so I can see the big issue with them pushing stuff.
@mica4977 Жыл бұрын
The unfortunate thing is that these low prices are primarily possible because of the "free" shipping which isnt actually free. China is considered a "developing country" so the US postal service and other first world countries pay for the mail they receive. So Temu pays a few cents or nothing to send the products to us & our Mail system gets more and more in dept to pay for all this extra Mail circulating which we end up paying for through taxes.

The thing is shein has an american pricing going on so in our country they're actually not that cheap because of the, you know, the currency conversion. They have similar pricing as with legit and more trustworthy brands. In some countries, it's actually a very fair price, I mean, considering, they're not very good quality. I think the only reason people buy from them is because in most asian countries, most of our brands only sell free-size clothings. There's really nothing available for pluz size. Until now, I don't think they cater for plus sizes still. I remember in college when I had to attend a party and I looked for a dress, I had to lose weight because I could only find free size dresses. And at that time I was a medium to large and those free sizes only fits the small to medium frames. It's hard living in asia, man. The problem with Shein is that instead of changing their business practices, they just keep on doubling down. But until other clothing brands change and start catering towards anyone in different shapes and sizes, I don't think Shein or Temu are going down anytime soon. Some people just don't have a choice. It's not about the prize, it's just that, right now, these are the only brands that provide their needs. The only thing we could do is for influencers and youtubers to stop promoting them or talking about them at all. No matter how much awareness you put out there, they're not listening. It's like the big companies like apple and samsung, you know? No matter what they do, I mean, even they used child labor and stuff shein did, but they're not getting cancelled, because again, they're the only providers of the things we need or want. They have the monopoly for it. No one's gonna listen and we'll keep making excuses.

Sorry I need to clarify that I was talking about the first part of the video, the environmental and ethical production discussion. I feel like a lot of rich influencers are promoting products from Amazon as well, getting far less criticized, even though they can afford to shop somewhere else. My point is that A LOT of their products probably come from the same place, considering the price points and the fact that it’s the same products. And the dropshipping just adds to the negative environmental impact? I’m just confused I thought all of these belonged in the same kind of category, mass produced, inexpensive goods made in China. But somehow “ Amazon is Amazon” 🤔
@isabele4365 Жыл бұрын
@@kompistanya I completely agree, I wasn't defending Amazon- just that the platform operates differently. I'm in a situation where I don't get paid alot and end up with not much to have to spend on things like clothes, i hardly buy them simply because I cannot afford it. I'll be told constantly that I should update my wardrobe because the stuff I wear looks like it has been worn far too much and looks bad now... the issue is when I go shopping in stores within my city, a dress is costing me over around £25, a nice shirt around 20, even when you go to some of the more lower end stores, the prices arent much different, I feel bad for being one of the people that ends up on sites like Temu but when they are offering me a nice dress or cute outfit for less than £10, and after wearing both types of clothes the quality (for the most part) isn't that much different... Logically for me it makes sense to use these sites and so I end up doing so. Videos like these help me understand why I shouldn't a little bit more so I will try my hardest to avoid it where I can but it's just one of those things where it's like unless my life gets better, theres no luxury in buying from less shady places.

If you are interested in buying organic and healthier food, I’ve been a massive fan of Able and Cole for years. They’re not too expensive, have a good range and deliver to most places across the uk!

Is no one even considering the option to not buying as much new clothes as an influencer? I’m broke AF and I accept that I can’t jump on every single trend. I look for items on sale and discounts. At no point have I thought that every person w a bank card is entitled to have the latest fashion or hundreds of different clothes in my wardrobe. I bought from SHEIN one time, 6 years ago and it was the worst shit ever. Yes I got a lot for my money but did I though? Worst quality ever and it was still money I gave to a big corp who basically treat their staff as slaves. Honestly this fast fashion trend scares me. I promise I’m not as old as I sound lol I just think it’s morally wrong and also not worth it. I’ve been poor for years now and I fully understand why you can’t but organic etc (same for me) BUT it is not a human right or NEED to have this many new clothes or to look like your favorite influencer. The Temu credit card scam is just another reason for why this is too good to be true.

Anyone else get a Temu ad before this?

We need to also normalize locking our cards bc anyone walking next to you can have some sort of scanner and take ur money and info or using certain fake keypads at gas station inside and at the gas pump it’s crazy

Not to imply that people are stupid, buuuut.... I don't understand how people could think temu is legit. Like how could you see those prices and not think it's too good to be true. Like you said, things cannot be made ethically or have any level of quality for those prices. Like yeah we all want a good deal, yeah none of us are getting paid enough, I feel it. I get it. I'm also a bit addicted to online shopping. But I never even considered temu or shein for a moment. I'd rather save up for one good product than get ten things I'm gonna throw away in a month. But I also have a decade and a half of experience shopping online, and I know what quality I can expect based on what I spend. I feel bad for younger folks who don't have the knowledge and experience to know when something is too good to be true.

Crazy how the ad that played before this video was for Temu
