Unfortunately, this solution does not remove the cloud dependency. After registering the device via Local Tuya in HA, I tried to remove it from Smart Life app which also deactivated device in HA. When I did the device registration again (via Smart Life), device received new Device ID as well as new Local Key which were different from the old ones. New registration in HA was needed after that. Means, the device is cloud dependend and can't be isolated to local HA only (or at least I didn't find a way how to make it really just and only local device)
@tp-project2 жыл бұрын
This is correct, however it does continue to work if you pull the internet and it does work a bit faster. I took all my Tuya lights back to the store though and replaced them with Zigbee. I was tired of certain devices losing connectivity with localtuya (despite still working with normal Tuya integration) and it's a pain in the ass to reconfigure them all the time.

I generally like your videos but I feel this one lacks a bit of research... the options you get when integrating a device are the pins for each of the functionalities, in your example, your switch was off at the moment of integrating it, hence the False and the value was coming out of pin 1. Your particular switch didn’t have power monitoring so there are no extra pins where to get the current and consumption from (which are the extra 3 drop downs). Also, the last step is not to add an extra device but to create a new entity from the same device. For instance, a separate sensor for the voltage (although this can also be done with a template in HA).
@WillSurridgeTech3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for clearing that up :)

Thanks for that info Jorge, When I try to add a consumption switch I can figure which value I should choose for current voltage etc.. What I can't figure out is what I choose for the ID of the entity.. I can't understand which value form the drop down should I choose...
@GeorgeBark3 жыл бұрын
@@amilevin8610 In the ID goes the main source of information. In your case I guess it would be pin 1 (True/False) which controls the On/Off status. If you were to add more sensors from the same switch, voltage for instance, for that new sensor the ID would be the pin that gives the voltage. Hope it makes sense.

Hi Will thanks for the video, but for me I only got as far as trying to get the local key, I do not get the response back, any clue what to try

Hi Gary, I am the same. I get the top section of URL info but no "Response" info which is where Will was showing the info including "Local Key". Gary, did you have any luck getting the local key?

Hi, Great explanation, I had tried using Local Tuya once before, but every time I "stumbled" when looking up Local Key. By means of this API explorer would make this a bit easier ..... Unfortunately, I don't get a response. Despite the correct server etc ..... Has Tuya blocked this again? (written with google translate).....
@TempusWarrior3 жыл бұрын
I have the same issue. The API explorer doesn't return any response and neither does using the provided curl. When using curl the response is that the token is invalid

I ended up using the npm program listed here:: github.com/codetheweb/tuyapi/blob/master/docs/SETUP.md But adding devices via the config flow or YAML always shows devices as unavailable

With the explanation of the disabled on modern browsers it has now worked, it was quite a job as I have a lot of Tuya devices, but it works perfectly, thanks for the explanation .....

You are only trying to get the local keys of your devices, which you only need once, so the trial should be fine.

Generally I would prefer the local instance. I'm just little concerned about integrating all appliances using developer account(again cloud) which terms and conditions can change anytime. Also, statement that local tuya is more reliable seem incorrect to me. One of cloud key concepts is the reliability due to distributed processing. I can't see how single local instance of tuya, using single ISP and probably controller and power source to run it is more reliable. More controllable and traceable, sure. Faster, probably. Reliable with all those single points of failures not really to me. I'm using cloud at the moment but was thinking about getting some local instance running. Getting some home controller to which you could connect directly over internet would be nice.

Has anyone used local tuya to integrate wall dimmer switches? This video adds a basic binary sensor for smart switches which works well enough. I just have a bigger need for wall switches with dimming enabled.

Thanks for the video again! I've managed to get all the way until I'm installing Tuyalocal HACS integration. When I put in the details it fails to install. I used to have the HA - Tuya cloud integration. Do I need to disable that first or is it possible to have both running at the same time for the same device? Any thoughts anyone?

So...To create a new project with Tuya you need to be "verified" by Tuya 1) logged into tuya website 2) added cellphone # to account settings 3) found Clinet ID number in Tuya app Account settings (called Client ID) 4) went to website and clicked "verify" in settings 5) entered my phone number / name / ID number 6-10) failed over and over and over again
