Why not add chopped dried mangoes or any dried fruit you like. I did that during the bday of my sister n a lot are asking about my recipe. Since im a diabetic i never add the caramelized sugar. I place a foil or parchment w butter and pour the mixture. Just if you just like and my sugar is always half of the required recipe.❤

My mother used to make this. It was steamed bread pudding with a caramelised top. I think she used to add a dash of grated nutmeg. She used to mash the bread with a fork in the liquid mixture. It was delicious. It melts in the mouth.

It's just a bread flan. You should look up Puerto Rican cheese flan. It's super easy and very delicious. You'll need 1 C sugar and 2 tbsp water. This'd will make your caramel sauce. Pour into an 8 - 9" round baking pan. Now blend 1 8 oz cream cheese until smooth. Add in 1 can condensed milk, 1 can evaporated milk, 2 tsp vanilla extract and 5 - 6 eggs. I use 6. Blends together until smooth. Strain into the pan and bake at 350 for roughly an hour.

I can see it is an elegant bread pudding. It is beautiful. The type of bread pudding I remember leaves the bread in chunks then baked. Of course other things often were added, such as raisins or pineapple chunks, etc. All was delicious if done chunky style the bread must be exceedingly dry then required to soak up all the liquid before baking. Delish.

Not in the UK. Here bread pudding has similar ingredients but also a lot of dried fruit (raisins, sultanas, candied peel) and mixed spice - making it a much dark colour. I like the look of this and will try it when I have some white bread.

That is a lovely expression "God's own Country" - I understand that Kerala is very green and beautiful - famous for growing tea? In the UK, Yorkshire people (Yorkshire being a county in the north of England) describe where they live as "God's own country". (Confusing for those whosd first language isn't English - country and county.) Strangely, there is also a brand of tea called Yorkshire Tea (not sure where that tea is grown.)
