The Shakers got it right when they sang " 'tis a gift to be simple, 'tis a gift to be free." Don's voice was as simple and as smooth as silk and emanated freedom and effortlessness. He was special. Though I'm thankful for the music we have from him, I wish there were more coming. RIP Gentle Giant.

I started listening to Don Williams in 1982, l was a young girl in my early twenties and “You’re my best friend “ and Till the rivers all run dry, and Amanda has been my all time favourite. May Don rest in peace and his memories will always linger on forever because of his songs and his wonderful voice. South London. U.K.

There's No stronger wind than the one that blows Down a lonesome Railroad line. No prettier sight than the looking back, on a Town you've left behind. There's nothing that's as real, as a Love that's in my mind. Close your eyes I'll be here in the Mornin', Close your eyes I'll be here for awhile. There's a lots of things along a road I'd surely like to see, I'd like to lean into the wind to tell myself I'm free. But your softness whispers louder, than the highways calling me. Close your eyes I'll be here in the Mornin', Close your eyes I'll be here for awhile. All the mountains and the rivers and the Valleys can't compare To your Blue lit dancin' eyes, Yellow shinnin' hands I could never hit the open road and leave you lyin' there Close your eyes I'll be here in the Mornin', Close your eyes I'll be here for awhile. Lay your head back easy Love, Close your cryin' eyes. I'll be layin' here beside you, When the sun comes on the rise. I'll stay as long as a coo-coo wails, as a lonesome Bluetick cries. Close your eyes I'll be here in the Mornin', Close your eyes I'll be here for awhile. Close your eyes I'll be here in the Mornin', Close your eyes I'll be here for awhile.

Honestly I had never heard of him , I knew all the artist of ''old country'' (I thought I did). Untill one day we had a new man on work he was from France Guinea , while I was listening to some Cash and Nelson he said ''Do you know Don Williams?'' and I said no , so i've put a song on from him and since that time im hooked. Specially because he covered a Haggard song that I liked more than the original.

I.M. DON WILLIAMS, Sept. 8. 2017 he passed away in the age of 78 and from now on he's history. But his songs will live on and we all who loved him wil play them for ever. Thank you DON for being with us and give us all your jewels, to cheer us up as we feel down, to give us new energy and go on, because it's worth it to do so. Thank You Country Giant.

I love and miss Don so much! His music has meant so much to me since I was a kid. He truly is the greatest country singer of all time, and his music never gets old! I just don't see how anyone could click thumbs down to this. The beautiful words of Townes Van Zandt and the amazing voice of Don Williams. Truly, it don't get no better than this folks.

If you pull up a photo of his wife, Joy, I think he put her into this song. He stayed as long as he could. She outlived him a couple of years. She was soft and sweet looking, probably had blue lit dancing eyes and yellow shining hair from her photos. Close your eyes, I'll be here for awhile. He was. He may have had a diagnosis that they were both dealing with. But he was still there then. They were learning they had to let go. He didn't write the song, but it said what he needed to say at the time.

@@risumotus Nothing lasts forever.Life is short, enjoy it to the full while it lasts. Generations come and go. That beautiful , golden era of Ken Rodgers , Don Williams , sadly had to come to and end to be replaced by another generation of singers the youth of today will identify with. What us lovers of that golden era should thank God for is having to live in that epoch to enjoy the country music songs of Don Williams, Ken Rodgers , Dolly Partons and many others in their lifetime.
