Just seeing Phil Hartman wearing that Donahue wig was funny enough for me.

Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks were, IMO, the best male/female sketch team in SNL history. Likely helped by this being a particularly strong era for the SNL writing staff.

Phil Hartman's impressions were dead on. IMO there has never been another SNL cast member that could nail an impression as well as Mr. Hartman. I'm hard-pressed in this sketch to tell it's not Phil Donahue. RIP Cheers

I just wish he could've done Jerry Springer or Maury. I bet he could've done a dead-on impersonation of both of them.

He wasn't underrated. Was highly regarded.
@John_McDonnell Жыл бұрын
@@abdelrahmanelsheikh5798 Perhaps underrated isn't the proper word, but he was certainly underutilized by Hollywood. The man should've had starring vehicles by the '90s, all he lacked were the right scripts. And also, y'know, the murder.
@abdelrahmanelsheikh5798 Жыл бұрын
@@John_McDonnell May be so, although he did have a starring role in the TV sitcom News Radio and won sn Emmy for his SNL work. Agreed though, one of the most talented, versatile and nicest celebrities ever; gone too soon 😢

@@John_McDonnell A lot of it has to do with his falling out with Paul Reubens after Hartman tried to talk to him out of just playing Peewee Herman. Who knows where their careers could have led them had Reubens listened to Phil?

SNL will never be as funny as this era. Nothing was sacred and everything was fair game. The casts impersonations were nailed every time

The real reason that the recent seasons have been so hated on is because they did mock somebody's sacred cow. And it was not leftists who have been doing the hating.

Love Jan Hooks' character, her crying and suddenly pulling up all smiles to talk about her wonderful husband, now that's comedy. 🤣
@sandal_thong863110 ай бұрын
I think she did Tammy Faye Baker and they accidentally cut to her while she was putting in eye drops, then used a different camera angle to "fix" the shot for a future broadcast. But people loved the idea that Tammy Faye was fake-crying so I think they restored the original goof after that.
