Right? When I hear about the state of television in that time period being average to bad (not entirely, of course, but people compare this show to the programs of the time as being much deeper), but it helps to actually see it. You’re right, when I first saw this, for some reason, I thought he was interrupting or something...nah, far from it.

It's kind of crazy how much more timid women were in interviews in the 90s. Dana almost stands up for them and gives them a voice so they don't have to risk sounding combative or self-congratulatory. Piper Laurie has a more self-assured vibe, but she's the biggest name in the cast and that's just her personality. The younger women seem as though they feel the need to be cautious in interviews though.

Such a great set of actors. All beautiful people. This show was a true masterwork. I've watched it about 4 or 5 times, usually with a new group of friends, and others who've already seen it. It's so delightful.

+greatleapforwards you're right.... But I think you have to look at it as a domino effect.... Twin peaks allowed for continual serial drama stories like oz and then eventually the sopranos to be aired.... They of course led to the rise of cable..... And it just snowballs on from there. But you are right. It was a gradual shift.

At the time, TV was a death sentence for the career of most actors. It signaled they couldn't get work in movies but were suitable for something like a soap opera. Most people at the time wanted to start in TV and go to movies. TV was literally called the "idiot box". It was considered very odd that an avant-garde and quite successful person like David Lynch wanted to make a TV show. But honestly, when this show hit, the entire nation was mesmerized. People had something out-of-this-world and intriguing to talk about. Something very similar happened when Seinfeld aired. Both shows truly revolutionized their genres in the media of TV. Now, because TV is no longer limited to a September-May season on three networks like it was 25 years ago, big-time actors/directors/writers jump at the chance to make finer and finer entertainment on the small screen.

LOL! I was a teen in the '90s and I too recall when TV was considered inferior to film. That's why you often had actors like Shelly Long *(Cheers)* or David Caruso *(NYPD Blue)* who left their shows in a vain attempt to carve out a successful film career. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out for them like it did for, say, George Clooney *(ER).* Nowadays, the distinction between television and film is blurred and it's no longer an issue, it seems.

This Donahue guy is a god awful interviewer. Barely gives the actors time to answer questions, constantly interrupts them to make stupid irrelavent jokes, makes dumb remarks about their appearence, and doesn't seem to have any distinguished order or structure for his questions. Just some old guy making out dated jokes whos all over the place and can barely properly structure his own show.

Great timing for Donahue to get the cast over at one episode before the end of Season 1. Anybody knows how many episodes after JR was shot before the shooter was revealed? On Twin Peaks, it was either 15 or 17, depending on if you can read between the lines.
