Cosmic, Bossanova, Jazz fusion vibes. 'Fufu' is my fav...sounds so sophisticated. Donald Byrd was a genius & all of his albums are well worth listening to especially the 70s stuff. 'Black Bryd' & 'Street Lady' are 2 classics....

Check out Donald Byrd’s “Live At The Half Note” album with Pepper Adams on bari and (again) with George Cables on acoustic piano. Imo one off his best albums, worth checking out. But Kofi is a wonderful album, with a stellar line-up. Dig & Cheers!

Actually is Dr. Byrd. If you find a good bio you will find out the man had a multitude of degrees, including a business and law degree to name a few. Also this popped up as a random album on my feed too and so glad it did.

Thanks for posting this impressive jazz recording. In all my collecting of Jazz on vinyl, this LP has eluded me. High priced online when you can find it. The first track reminds me of that era of the CTI and Atlantic records, same era.

During '68-'69, numerous jazz artists (e.g. Blue Mitchell, Stanley Turrentine, Freddie Hubbard et al) shifted their rhythmic interplay toward the tighter R&B and away from the looser post-bop. The LP is surely good, but I prefer what he was creating in the late '50s / early '60s. Thanks for sharing. (Please cease those awful, annoying commercials that spring up out of nowhere and ruin the mood Byrd was building...)

Great album. I've loved Donald Byrd since ~2000 when I picked up "First Flight" at Jazz Record Mart in Chicago. A very underrated composer/musician - I think he sits right in that pre-fusion space like Miles' "In a Silent Way" but he did a lot of really funky stuff like this.

am army brat from Gary, Indiana got me hipped to Prof. Donal Byrd and his understudies/proteges 'Blackbyrds' ... been mesmerized ever since and more so now because they don't do music like this anymore.
