The reason they speak Danish rather than Icelandic is A) to poke fun at Danish cinema, which has for several years now been mostly known for these hard-boiled, socially conscious crime dramas, and B) Because most grown-up Icelanders intimately associate Donald Duck with the Danish language, since the comics were not available in Icelandic until the early 1980s. Entire generations of Icelanders learned to read Danish because of Donald Duck.

Actually it is a parody on Icelandic pop culture itself the way I understand it from an Icelandic friend of mine. Many Icelanders grew up reading Donald Duck in Danish, and the movie is using the inner and outer voice of (mock) Danish to make it even more "real" that this is the way it could have gone with Donald.

Lots of people saying the Danish is really broken and hard to understand, but honestly, compared to how heavy the accent of most Icelandic people is, I think you did a really good job. I at least could pretty easily understand everything that was said, even if some words were used a little incorrectly. All in all, 11/10 tbh!

Too bad father isn't here to see this movie when it comes out. He loved Donald Duck magazine and comicbooks and he loved Scandinavian satiric comedy - especially "-Vaktin" trilogy. But he died all of a sudden in January at way too early age...

As a Dane it sounds SOO funny. The accent sounds alot like people from Bornholm which is the most remote island in Denmark. But the actors are really doing great. You can easily understand them as they speak danish very well. Its mostly where they put the pressure in alot of words that gives it away as not native danish. Especially how they pronounce "fedtmule" as "Fedmule" makes it even better
