The Top rate of income Tax was reduced back to 45%.During those two years they failed to attract foreign business and individual to move to France and The reform clearly damaged France's reputation and competitiveness. It clearly has become harder to attract international senior managers to come to France than it was. Other people reduced their pay under the Threshold for the Two years, hoping that the government would scrap it. I still do not believe the government have learnt from their mistakes. The personal income tax should be eliminated completely, as should all property tax. Prior to the Federal Income tax, the Federal government was funded entirely on taxes of corporate profits, and that's what we should return to. Set the taxes to favor businesses of 200 or fewer employees, and increase it exponentially beyond that size. Sales tax can supplement it at a state and local level.

Raising taxes is like raising the price of a product. Sure your margins go up, but your sales go down. There's always a sweet spot, where raising taxes any further would cause sales to go down more than profit margins to rise, or where lowering the cost would cause margins to go down more than sales to go up. Funny enough, there are often MULTIPLE "sweet spots". You get below a certain price and sales skyrocket. The lower that price (all other things being held equal) the better the quality of life for everyone, except the seller. Why do government officials want to raise taxes, I wonder?
