Not really, tariffs are way to transfer funds from private sector to government and not call it taxes. You can put a protectionist spin on it that goes well with maga base, then possibly even use those funds to lower taxes, which also goes well. It's also good way to pick winners and losers depending how you do the tariffs. Ultimately all this plays into grab for concentrated power and Trump's authoritarian plans

And yet American voters just didn't seem to realise. Now they're going to wake up and realise who was in presidency had nothing to do with the price of eggs, but if tariffs comes it will have a lot to say for consumer prices coming up. Meanwhile as a European I felt this was pretty damn obvious the entire time. As a brit. living in the USA this isn’t the best coverage of US politics. This is 3 people pushing other Londoner’s opinions around a table. There is a total lack of awareness of the context in which this is occurring and the feeling the average person has towards “Washington DC”. The British elite, as reflected by this show is geopolitically clueless. Trump hates the EU and NATO. The EU is in trouble. It can't grow and it can't defend itself. Britain needs to sit on the sidelines and not get involved. It should seek a bilateral trade deal with the US on trade and security.
