Trump sees NATO as a cost like in a business. Not an investment. NATO has kept peace in Europe since WW2 and allowed the USA to trade and make money. Its leadership also kept powers like Germany in check. NATO served the US very well.

@@dennisweidner288 Considering him and his maga supporters spout Russian propaganda talking points regarding Ukraine, I'd say he works for Russia lol. Robert F Kennedy also coincidentally had a campaign poster that had a Russian coffee shop in the background. Add to all this circumstantial stuff, there was speculation of Russian interference in elections leading to people wanting to impeach trump. Trump is also a liar, e.g. claiming to want border security yet didn't want a bill that Biden wanted which included border security measures. It was all because Trump wanted to deprive the democrats of a win. Trump is evil. He is also a convicted sex abuser in a civil case... how much more evidence of him being shady do you need? But we are not electing a pope, we are electing a president. AndBNiden may have the correct attitudes, but he also promotes the idea of forcing school girls and young women athletes to compete against biological males. Adult women have the courts to turn to, and young female athletes have no protection. Trump would not even need to leave NATO to render it functionally impotent. Read Article 5 carefully. NATO members are not automatically required to provide military assistance if another member is attacked, just assistance “as deemed necessary,” which could mean something as mundane as sending medical supplies, for example. You can bet Putin knows this, and there is no way Trump would commit American troops to protect Europe if he had a way out. If Trump is elected you can forget about more funding for Ukraine, US military assistance to protect NATO members, or the US nuclear umbrella.

What you probably meant was that Bolton says that Trump said that. there is a big difference between these two statements,. Now there have been so many lies told about Trump, beginning with the whole Russia hoax that it is difficult to know what to believe. Just this week for example the media cut and spliced a Trumo recording to accuse him of saying awful things about Hispanics when he was talking about one specific murderer. And as far as I know, he has never said publically that he wants to leave NATO. Trump has talked tough on NATO. And the Europeans who are not meeting their NATO obligations need some tough talking to. I would not believe this coming from the usual media character assassins. Useful perspective as Ambassador Bolton has worked with Trump but has longer experience. Even without Trump, the US is becoming less involved in Europe. Trump would accelerate that process - perhaps a lot - although alliances are in fact very important for US security. I suspect that team Trump view alliances through the simple 'zero sum game' perspective of Trump's business experience. The value of alliances are deeper and more subtle than money calculations show.
