Donald Trump says Harrisburg looks like a war zone, area residents react

On Aug. 2, Donald Trump told a crowd in Ashburn, Va. that he had flown into Harrisburg and looking down he thought "it looked like a war zone," saying he saw massive plants that once were vibrant forces in the community. We asked Harrisburg-area residents what they thought about his remarks.

The only thing I find unusual is that there are no prominently displayed movie theatres in the downtown area and no major stores such as Sears or Walmart. You have to go to the malls to see a movie at a regular theatre or go to a big retail outlet at the malls to get the bargains. But those things don't make it look like a war zone. Of course, there are dilapidated houses as there are in all cities in the USA, but that doesn't transform it into a war zone. Harrisburg has a very beautiful Capitol complex designed in the Greco-Roman architectural style with, a wonderful State Museum next to it. The Riverfront is very beautiful as well. The many bridges spanning the Susquehanna River add to its majestic sprawl. The skyline is very pleasant to contemplate and transmits peacefulness and good city planning. Also, the streets are kept very clean.

I know this was eight years ago. As a Pennsylvania resident there’s certain areas you don’t go into in the city of Harrisburg because it is a war zone and it has been told by people that are not black. If you were here after dark, you will get messed up.
