America should do a little history reading before getting into beef with another country this time around. North & South Korea were just Korea for a long loooong time before partition. For nearly a thousand years they lived in profitable peace with their neighbours so have far more in common with each other than with the US.
@MDP17026 жыл бұрын
that might have been true before the partition, but now they have grown quite apart on many things. A thousand years of living together and having the same culture etc., doesn't mean it's still so after sixty years of following practically opposing ideologies/civilisations/systems... The south korea today is much much different than that of sixty/seventy years ago. This thousand years thing might be usefull if they ever join together again and want the people to feel more like one again (focusing on these thousands years in history class and culture while downplaying parts of these past sixty years).
@madoldbatwoman6 жыл бұрын
"Focusing on these thousands years in history class and culture while downplaying parts of these past sixty years." That's exactly what I meant. Two leaders can sit opposite each other and say, "We're brothers." It won't be a perfect union, but 60 years measured against thousands (because that's only the period of peace, not the whole history of the peninsula.) It would be worth the US remembering that the neighbours in question are Russia & China. If the US goes in half cocked as it has done on other occasions, it may well find it's bitten off more than it can chew - which doesn't bode well for the rest of us. Putin is reputed to look back fondly at the communist experiment (whereas the rest of us can see it for the abject failure it was) and would love to have that level of control back in the right (in his twisted views) hands. China would be a natural ally in that. WW3 could become a very grim reality, just when there are genuinely globalwide issues that need the most powerful countries to work on reducing/managing, together or individually. Even the hardnoses of the Pentagon have put the impacts of climate change uppermost in the risks to global peace & stability. Once again I am so very glad I'm old and have no kids to leave behind.

This was actually funny. Made me chuckle. But seriously, know what else is funny? Trump is managing something historic and all most in the media can think to do is somehow try to make fun of him. I mean, you couldn't just say he's doing a great job could you? Couldn't even bring yourself to do that. If obama had done this guarantee you'd be taking this as seriously as it deserves to be taken. And if I had managed what Trump has, I'd be bloody excited too. All the haters he's had to put up with and he still managed it, plus all the other positive changes he's implemented and Obama's policies he's kept strong. You're still just giving him ammo whenever he says fake news. He's going to win again. Trump 2020.

Okay, if he pulls this off, that will be an absolutely amazing accomplishmet. Like, if he succeeds here and then does nothing else for his entire term, he'd still be a well-accomplished president. I HATE the guy and part of me hates that he might get this right. But I hate nuclear war more, so I'll swallow that bitter pill. I'm cautiously optimistic, here. I don't trust Trump, but China, SK, and Japan are also involved, so they'll likely bring enough stability to teh table to make it productive. Fingers crossed, people.
