Done With FGO Content & Streams? | My Opinions About Fate/Grand Order's Content Guidelines

What are your thoughts on the new guidelines? For me, it doesn't really change anything as far as how I operate my channel, videos, and streams. Until there are any updates or until any bigger FGO content creators actually get hit for posting safe content, then I'm honestly not worried.

Let's be real. If people had been doing their due diligence with spoiler tagging, video titling, and not including spoilers in thumbnails, they'd probably never have had to roll out these rule updates in the first place. LB4 is pretty far back to be drawing the line at, though. I'd think at least "whatever part of the story NA is at at any given time" would be reasonable enough.

I've written small books about the topic on Discord this week, so I'll try to keep it a little tl;dr (it's still going to be long): - As some have mentioned and I think was mentioned a bit here, if more content creators respected those not wanting to be spoiled a bit more, this wouldn't even be an issue. OC3 spoilers were handled incredibly poorly by content creators to the point I saw one major JP content creator posting the welfare servant within 2 hours of part 3 hitting, and their video getting flooded with complaints before they took it down. On the other hand, a number of NA content creators, one of whom I can think of in particular, have told people asking for better spoiler tags to effectively "go pound sand," but now that they're in this situation, want the same people to come to their defense. - Nobody should find the existing guideline properly designed. It should only apply to like the most recent event tbh, only to KZbin videos as you know what you get into clicking on a Twitch stream, and certainly not as far back as LB4. - We're being dragged into a much larger "spoiler" discussion going on right now with the JJK and Oshi no Ko manga authors in particular upset about spoilers. - A lot of fault lies on Google not providing tools to better avoid spoilers, such as being able to block entire categories from your recommended feed and making it easier for content creators to spoiler tag their videos/mosaiac thumbnails. These are not even things that are very hard to do! - There are a lot of rude people on both sides of the aisle, and this is not a topic worth the type of incendiary and sometimes all together racist garbage I see being spewed. IIRC, only one content creator has actually received a copyright claim on the NA side so far, so I kind of hope there is still some opportunity for content creators to voice their complaints and to work on a better policy with Aniplex and maybe get some clarification, as the KZbin copyright claim process plain sucks right now (it's way too easy to fake your identity and to even use it to backdoor dox content creators who are forced to provide their real name to counter the claim).

@@Cav829 all good/fair points. Interesting that an NA content creator already got in trouble, because according to the new guidelines, any content posted beforehand was safe. So this individual must've just spoiled something in recent weeks.

@@TheMainCharacterJack It was in fact an OC3 related video by an NA content creator who both creates JP content and has titles in Japanese. It 's part of what led to a lot of the response videos from other NA creators.

@@Cav829 Is that right? Like I said in the video, I actively avoid such videos & FGO channels for the most part to combat spoilers as much as possible, so I had no idea it was to the point that an NA player even went as far as making JP titles to increase their video's reach. Very interesting haha

My reaction to all of this. I am going to keep an eye on what goes on from here on out. But I do find it funny that they go to Lostbelt 4, not the ones that are actually released right now actively in NA. Edit: I noticed a typo that I did in "But."

I remember seeing a thumbnail when Musashi 'died' in Lost Belt 5 as an NA player who one of my favorite characters is Musashi, i saw that and wasn't happy that was spoiled for me. So when it happened in NA i simply didn't have the same reaction as i would've had if i hadn't known one of my favorite characters fate was that. It didn't hit as hard for me. It's why now i tend to stay away from any JP streams of the game from FGO content creators. Character demonstrations or things that have nothing to do with the actual plot, those i don't have a problem with cause there is no context for any of that stuff. It's when like you said actual plot reveals or story beats are spoiled (deliberately) that is where i understand Lasengle's stance on the subject.

I guess for me, while I am someone who strictly avoids spoilers for other games, I really don’t even get bothered by it in FGO. I think that’s largely because I steer clear of translations and purely watch gameplay videos of bosses for min-turning. If there’s anything significant that I get spoiled about in this way, I usually have long forgotten about it once the story is localized in NA and I read it for real. I do think this is going to hurt a lot of FGO KZbinrs who have built their channel doing those big story fights as the embargo is really far too far back, imo. I could see protecting content for 6 months to a year, but like you said LB4 was years and years ago. It’s too aggressive right now and I hope they clarify or modify their requirements going forward.

I do think, though, that just by adjusting titles & thumbnails, I think many of the FGO content creators who are more gameplay focused SHOULD be able to avoid trouble since many of the complaints are from players who happen to see spoilers just by scrolling around -- not by actually watching a video/stream. And as an extra precaution, put spoiler warnings in the beginning of said videos. So it's really about adapting & being extra cautious IMO. But only time will tell if there will be big implications or if this is just a whole big warning

Honestly I feel the same as the opening. As a player I get the desire to combat spoilers. Because people often don't take much care to avoid spoilers in the titles or thumbnails. Because they want as many views as possible. I get that. But I also get that a line can be crossed at some point and backlash resulting. And this is that. The backlash is excessive and they could have done this smoother. But it's no wonder someone said "enough is enough." My gut is that they should just draw the story spoiler line at "where NA is at." Since that's fair enough. It's 2 years back for JP players so shouldn't be brutal for them. And at the very least NA players are going into stories (relatively) blind. The roll-out is a bit awkward. It seems as if "where NA is at" is what they are lining up for. But October and November will be a bit weird in terms of the timeline they lined up. But once we hit December and beyond it should be ok-ish. It's a weird thing. Personally I'm just going to keep playing since it is just a game for me. I get that people making money off videos have their own issues to consider. But in general I don't disagree with the concept of the story-restrictions.

Japan's playerbase are okay with the new guidelines, & that's really all that matters. The "backlash" is from people in the west who only either make money from FGO content OR are biased for their favorite content creator. I would've rather they don't limit the spoilers only until LB4 and lined up with NA better, but again, Japan's playerbase asked for this because someone or some people outside Japan couldn't be more discreet.

I HATE this stupid idiot guideline there's channel that translate story just few days after it's out, that's how i understand many story or event now it's RIP and i have to wait 2 years or use google len to translate sentence by sentence which is pain.

I don't understand what's exactly spoiler-worthy about Yuga Kshetra that the restriction goes that far. NA has been done with that Lostbelt for over two years as of this comment, and nothing about that chapter is particularly game-changing story-wise. For reference, the whole "we must commit mass culling to erase a Lostbelt" twist goes as far back as Anastasia, so it's not spoiler-worthy anymore. The biggest game-changers are in Avalon le Fae (the concept of a Lostword), Traum (Subject E and CHALDEAS), and Nahui Mictlan (ORT plus even more CHALDEAS infodump). My only gripes now, though, is it will take a LONG time for me to find out if/when a certain burning hot goth witch (who has three katanas when in her swimsuit) is coming back after her plot-mandated removal from the story.

Not entirely welcoming to the content creator community but not horribly restrictive either. A company that did take it too far is GungHo. They copyright struck any database/wiki that because of the artwork. Puzzles and Dragons has tens of thousands of monsters with multiple evo chains and hundreds of dungeons with complex annoying mechanics. So losing those DBs and wikis was massive finger to the player base. Though it also has ALL the scummy gacha mechanics that give gacha games the reputation they have so not too surprising when you think of it. But if GungHo was a triple A publisher like Blizzard or Ubisoft they easily would’ve made headlines. I see this FGO change as more of a way to protect new or newish players than a scummy business tactic. Though I can understand if others feel differently.

Personally, I don't like this. I'll be honest. The main reason of why I can keep going and motivated to play FGO is because of why I call "double hype". One hype from what happened in FGO NA, and some sneak peak (some spoilers included) from JP. For example, one of my biggest hype motivation back then was Oberon's reveal. His last moment in LB6 motivated me to stay in FGO NA so I can continue and experience it myself. Heck, if anything, the LB6 spoilers that I got back then was one of my life motivation when I was bedridden because of covid. With the rule now, I'm afraid my hype will be decreased and I won't be able to maintain my constant effort in FGO. FGO is already an outdated game and NA even 2 years behind. So many games that, I'll be honest, more enjoyable than FGO now. I'll most likely will stay with FGO, but won't be as much hyped as before and will focus on other game more where I can feel more hype.

I'm with you there haha harmless content like that should be okay, albeit maybe have to be careful with thumbnails/titles. Also, NA content SHOULD be safe since this is mainly a JP problem, but I wouldn't be surprised if the NA team get more strict as a result
