Having watched both Eternal Love/of Dream and other related shows (Ancient Love Poetry and Love and Destiny) as well as reading so many fan-fictions, I think it's safe to say that Donghua and Feng Jui were always supposed to be together. I don't even mean that her name was so obviously supposed to be paired with his, but that she was always supposed to be the balance to his mighty power. With the related shows as well as in this one, FJ should have gained more power from all she experienced. Like in his mortal trials, whether it was hers or not, she should have received some power upgrade for the trials she faced. She also never ascended beyond the immortal that she was born as. Her taking the evil strike for DH at the bell should have also come with a power increase ad the same for her being willing to sacrifice her life to contain and defeat Mio Lau in his starlight ward. Her phoenix symbol appearing no matter her form also means it was most likely a symbol of her rebirth. I always felt like there was a possibility that it had something to do with their old phoenix friend too, like maybe with him being bonded to FJ's uncle and the last of his kind, that maybe he formed some agreement with her parents and grandparents to place some of his own essence in her as a foetus. It would also explain why he takes more of a parenting role and her fathers bias against her. Love and Destiny had a similar sort of issue, as did Ancient Love Poetry. Plus, if the couple was not fated to be together, DH and FJ would never have met, let alone all of the times they meet. DH also would have found a way to send her away, instead he is constantly drawn to her birth mark. In every trial and in every way, he is always touching her head. Even when she does not have the mark visible to him, it is as if he knows it is there and touches it anyway. Truly a destined couple.
