at that time in joseon, when women's hair was cut, it would be a great disgrace to her and her family. they used to do that to women who were involed in sth disgaceful or have violated rules of their house. then everyone could see that their hair was short and that would make them notorious. that's why dong mae did it. so she wouldn't leave her house and stop her from doing sth dangerous hoping that she doesn't get hurt. though it was sorta toxic😂
