Favorite part about Jack is that he was rejected by K. Rool for being too destructive, chaotic, and violent. The frantic, malicious power conveyed in the opener always gives me gooseflesh

As someone who’s never played DK64, this sounds like something Kirkhope would compose originally

Donkey Kong 64 another of those gems that Kirkhope composed the music for. Diego here did a good job at capturing that Kirkhope energy he puts in his boss tracks.

This battle was full of adrenaline, defeating this guy was very gratifying because he was one of the hardest bosses in game!! At least one of my N64 controller stick died because of this guy 😂. What an amazing re orchestration! 💯🙌🏻

For me he was the most fun but the hardest in my opinion was the dragon in Fungi Forest and the blowfish.

The hardest boss in my opinion is K. Rool because I'm too bad with Diddy's Jetpack
@franciscojaviermendezrinco1902 Жыл бұрын
Unlike the other bosses who just have more moves, only Mad Jack and the dragon have dificulty spikes as mechanics. The dragon gives you time limit in the rematch, and Mad Jack gets smarter the more the battle progresses, getting to even predict you next move when he's still, launch his laser to the platform you'll land, move faster if you move diagonally and moving back if you go under him while jumping. Is one of the two bosses who's mechanics gives you an actual challenge. The pufferfish, he just has wonky controllers.

Sounds like what we would hear if DK64 ever got a remake. Legit sounds the way Kirkhope would remaster it himself with the orchestral style he uses today.

Great ear, Ragnar! Indeed! I managed to find the original laugh sound effect in a classic sound library! Probably the same library that Rare Composers had back in that era. Then, enhanced it with a bit of EQ, Compression and Reverb.

I'm doing a 365 Days of Music challenge, and I picked this for Day 202! I thought I'd share the piece I wrote on it: **Day 202:** "Donkey Kong 64: Mad Jack Theme | Epic orchestral cover" Something Grant Kirkhope likes to do, I've noticed, is take the motifs of a level or area and repurpose it as a boss theme for an area. I don't see this a whole lot, but it's a pretty cost-effective way to make fitting and enjoyable boss themes. I feel like Frantic Factory is one of the best level themes, while Mad Jack has one of the best boss themes. This theme maintains a feeling of ominous grandness. While some tunes may take "crazy" and decide to change the time signatures and create wild melodies (which works wonderfully in those cases when done well!), I like how Kirkhope didn't do that. Instead, it sounds like we're in a scary circus, and the insanity is embodied in the looming feeling that something is falling apart. The constant pressure from the strings reminds you that this fight is a near-*constant* run. It fits the fast-paced energy of the battle well. The slow sections also feel so right after you miss a platform and have to collect yourself, seeing Mad Jack wait in his box for you, bounding with energy. The theme is terrifying but playful. The great thing about Donkey Kong 64's soundtrack is that it really doesn't need to be *rearranged* nearly so much as it needs to be unchained, to be freed from its shackles of compressed samples and unleashed to frolic and play and leap and soar in orchestral glory. Diego Leal E. does a fantastic job making this piece come to life beyond the N64's limitations. The orchestration, for the most part, is very similar to the original piece, right down to the same laugh effects! (But not ripped from DK64! The mad lad went and found the original sound clips -- kudos!!!) Let's see, I've done four level themes from Donkey Kong 64 now in this list, haven't I? I wonder if I'll end up choosing any more of the others?

3:01 the climax with the brass alongside that throat tearing laugh is so incredibly strong. There's a real sense of finality and desperation there, like "this is it, I'm going to die." Really phenomenal work.

This theme was great before, but THIS is a work of art. I've fought Mad Jack in countless tries, and finally beat him after many frustrations. You have captured that struggle exceptionally well here, to feel those same feelings all over again even though I'm not playing the actual game itself, this is truly remarkable!

Only Dogadon in his rematch and Mad Jack are the only bosses in the game with dificulty spikes. Dogadon adds you a time limit to beat him, Mad Jack gets smarter the more the battle progresses, going to the point of even shooting his laser to the platform you'll land, moving faster if you go diahonally, go back if you go back under him and mixing all that with his inbisibility. The rest of the bosses just throw more stuff at you.
