I personally use FL Studio with a few VSTs for this kind of thing -- PG-8X, Dexed, SQ8L, Mono/Poly, PolySix and MS-20, alongside Linndrums and Simmons drums and a bunch of mixing VSTs that you can pick to your liking. It really just comes down to the sounds themselves that make the genre into what it is (though straying from the path walked many a times is always a welcome touch)!
