Mountains (forgot names): Most of the land is made up of mountains, making it awkward to traverse. So he gave it to his minion that could fly Bright Savana: Nice size, but the land is known for its natural disasters, (Tornado, fires) harsh environment, and ginormous sharks. Ocean (forgot name): Again, too small of it were to be frozen, but most of the land is underwater so he gave it to the minion that could swim Fruity Jungles: Big size, but infested with to many trees, making it difficult to traverse DK Island: Was Perfect, Humungous size, not too many trees making it easier to traverse for his minions, AND even though there used to be lava, the volcano has become inactive because of a certain, “incident”

I hope I'm not the only one who was reminded of King K Rool's fight from the first game during this fight. Him running at you back and forth, him jumping up and down and you having to dodge him, and him making enemies and ice dragons fall from the sky was similar to the cannonballs. I don't care if it was intentional or not but it defiantly fit better as a DKC final boss thanks to the references to K Rool. :D
@Birthnote10 жыл бұрын
The fight's good, but I wish they made Fredrick more original. K.Rool in DKC1 was basically all the kremlings combined. He has the skin and jumping power of the Kritters, the head and mouth of a klaptrap, the arms of a Krusha, body of a Klump and speed of the Roc Krocs taken up to 11 and some tricks of his own. Its cool because he wasnt just the leader of the kremlings its like he was all the kremlings in one. He did everything they could do but better, so its like they foreshadowed his powers throughout the game and it made some sense. In Tropical Freeze, when we see a walrus snowmad they never jump, or run really fast. Some are armored to different extents, some carry shields and/or helmets, and some have 2-sided weapons, but when we face Fredrick he's charging left to right and leaping like K.Rool. The Viking horn attacks and ice dragons are great and they make sense because they established that was his weapon and power, but the fight is borderline derivative and I think they could've came up with more original ideas. He shouldve been a tank-like boss; someone who is well armed in the front that you'd have to find your way around him so you attack his back before he turns around. The fight's not bad but I wish they did more.
@mcgurkmcgee49636 жыл бұрын
It's been said that K. Rool was originally going to be the villain of the game, but the developers were forced to come up with original villains because Nintendo for some reason doesn't like K. Rool. I don't know if that's true or not, but given the evidence, it wouldn't shock me.

Honestly speaking, I think Lord Fredrik is a better final boss than Tiki Tong from Donkey Kong Country Returns. Here's why: 1. His boss battle isn't preceded by an annoyingly hard Rocketbarrel sequence. 2. He goes down in nine hits, which is just as much as the other bosses in Tropical Freeze (Tiki Tong only went down in eight hits, which isn't as much as the other bosses in Returns). 3. Some of his attacks (making the platforms sink in the lava and firing ice dragons at the platforms) urge the player to stay focused on the arena as well as the boss. 4. It's not much, but the player is able to box him after the battle just like the other bosses (whereas the player couldn't box Tiki Tong into oblivion). 5. His battle theme is REALLY COOL. Tiki Tong's battle theme was cool too (it was a remix of the song the Tikis played to hypnotize the animals on DK Island), but I think Lord Fredrik's theme blows it out of the water.
@shajita10 жыл бұрын
I'm not gonna argue that Fredrik was a better boss, because he most certainly was. However, I do feel that the rocketbarrel sequence played an important role in terms of build up. It was the only boss that you actually had to do something just to face (within the stage itself, of course) which did help giving players (or me, at least) this kind of "Okay, this is it" feeling.about the whole thing. Fredrik was teased in the beginning, but his boss fight just kinda came and went, like the other ones in the game. Another thing, Tiki Tong's intro was a CGI video, that showed all the previous bosses being sacrificed to be a part of him. Fredrik just had another in-game cutscene (probably because Retro didn't have time for 4 different CGI scenes, due to there being more characters this time around) which once again made him stand out a little less from the rest. Again, Fredrik was the better boss fight. Better design, better attack patterns, and way better boss theme. But I do think it could've been even better with some pre-battle build up.
@TheDusty32110 жыл бұрын
Leave it to a Donkey Kong veteran like David Wise to beat a Metroid veteran like Kenji Yamamoto in terms of writing final boss music for a DKC game.
@Birthnote10 жыл бұрын
shajita AGREED. Fredrick didnt have the buildup that Tiki Tong had. They couldve done something simple like have ominous ambient music playing as you descend deeper into the volcano. The music gets stronger then BAM they use a cutscene (either CGI or in-game) and Fredrick is introduced then the fight begins. Even Jungle Beat's final boss had a dramatic heart pounding buildup and he was the easiest fight in any DK game :/
@The94Venom10 жыл бұрын

I appreciate that NSMB Wii brought the Koopalings back for the sake of nostalgia and fanservice, but using them yet again in NSMB2 and U was simply uncalled for. Anyway DKC bosses have always shat all over SMB bosses, and this game just further cements that fact.

Don't want to start complaining about a final boss that was done reasonably well, but there were a number of things that could have been done to amplify it. For example, this was my idea of how it could have went, since all of the bosses in the game had three distinct phases. For this one, similar to the Owl's battle, it should have taken place in three separate arena's. Round 1: Takes place on the deck of the Snowmad Ark. Mainly involves Frederik siccing his troops on you in waves as he watches from the background. After several waves including the best of his soldiers, he jumps on the stage and attacks with a weapon different than his magical horn: I would imaging something like a menacing halberd/spear doubled with a shield in the other hand. Basically, classing spear and shield combo where you have to attack by damaging the shield with his remaining troops. Once the shield is gone, attack him directly from the back once he charges. After three successful hits, Frederik breaks the deck in a rage and enters into the second round. Round 2: Takes place within the hull of the Ark. Here, Frederik challenges you one-on-one with numerous viking weaponry around the chamber to utilize. In this phase, I imagine a combination of swords, clubs, and axes; the standard Viking weaponry. At this point, Frederik has found a way of making himself invincible by keeping you away from hitting him. Instead of hitting him directly, you must focus on destroying the floor of the Ark yourself with watermelon bombs while avoiding his powerful attacks. Once the floor crumbles, the final phase begins. Round 3: Takes place roughly where the battle was in the game: throneroom mixed with lava and ice. This would basically pan out the same way it did in the game, with Frederik resorting to his ultimate weapon: the magical horn. However, it would be improved upon by Frederik creating himself armor out of ice (hey, if you control ice and are a heavyweight, why not take advantage of armor?) It takes numerous hits from the soldiers to shatter his armor, which is when he jumps to the foreground to settle matters up close and personal with the charges he used in the game. For the final hit, he creates a larger ice dragon like the one he used on the island and rides it into the battle. Destroy the dragon and go in for the final hit as he charges at 4x speed as the beginning of the phase. Now THAT would have been a memorable fight, along with a theme that actually contained the Snowmad theme.

Things I like about the Lord Fredrick fight: He uses quite a few different attacks, but they have a pattern that you can learn. If you're skilled enough, you can finish him off very quickly, since you always have 3 chances to hit him during his charges. His music is pretty good. The fight has a good difficulty progression. Things I don't like about the fight: There's buildup to find out who the Snowmad leader is, and then it turns out it's a fat walrus with no discernible facial features. The giant ice dragon was shown to be a major threat in the opening, but in the fight he just uses them for two attacks and they don't have much impact. The hitboxes for his back and head when he's charging are hard to figure out, and you can easily get hit because of this. The arena is a bland lava pit and isn't as interesting as other boss arenas.

Man that boss... Still haven't cleared it. It's freaking harder than Captain K. Rool in DKC2!
@Vioshy11 жыл бұрын
Philippe Gabriel Hmpf, probably they just used Dixie Kong and used the Kong power to get themselves 8 hearts. Try beating him with Cranky or without a partner. This boss isn't easy at all.

Yoshifreak128 Actually, he was pretty decent with Cranky, since you can farm hearts from the penguins he drops in.

Philippe Gabriel I don't want to sound like a braggart, but I was one of those people. I also found Donkey Kong Country Returns to be really easy. It's probably because I beat the original games and have a lot more experience than some of the younger gamers that bought the Wii U.

I'm guessing that I should feel proud that I got through this fight without using items (because I wanted to actually beat the final boss as apposed to Returns's where I had to use the banana juice because the rocket barrel part took forever that I didn't want to keep dieing and redoing it) and because I forgot about Dixie's golden hearts from using the kong power-thingy? Yay!

This boss is easier with Diddy. When Dixie hovers she goes a little down first and the boss is able to hit you because of that, especially in his last phase when he goes fucking fast. With Diddy, you keep the same level of your jumps, that allows you to jump earlier or in case you miss jump in the same place and keep the same distance from the ground.

The hard rocking of K. Rool's original boss theme is back and turned up to 11! I don't know which of the final boss tunes I like most in the DKC series. It's unfortunate that the GBA release of DKC3 didn't have a final boss track (and yet a second boss track was made but only played with a couple of the regular bosses)

To this day I feel there was a missed opportunity for a secret/true final boss where you defeat Lord Fredrik and he summons Snowdin, the God of the Snowmads...but then again, this game came out not long after that whole thing with Edward Snowden. Probably would've been real awkward at best lol
@MrTikitombo9 жыл бұрын
I have a little advice for everyone who has trouble with this boss. 1. Use cranky. 2. Aim for the shoulder blades as that is where his hitbox is biggest. 3. On phase 1: Stand in the middle for all 3 hits and jump when he brings his head down. Follow same jumping advice for all phases. 4. On phase 2: Stand in the middle for hit 1. 3 1/2 blocks away from him on hit 2. 4 blocks away on hit 3. 5. On phase 3: Stand 4 blocks away for all 3 hits. Do that and you should be fine. A few minor problems might happen but nothing too extreme. Probably just missed hits.

The song doesn't work that well in the game, since I was concentrating on the battle itself the background music just felt like noise. It's pretty intense and awesome by itself but could use a clearer tune/melody for the sake of the game

Yeah, this was known ever since E3 2013 when Nintendo themselves announced it. He worked with Kenji Yamamoto and the sound team from Nintendo SPD, but it does seem like the bulk of the soundtrack is mostly David Wise, considering how much better most of the tunes sound.
@Sharpie47310 жыл бұрын
***** I hope you aren't knocking off *all* of Yamamoto's work.
@mario5467110 жыл бұрын
Sharpie473 No, I'm not… but I don't think Yamamoto himself worked on the soundtrack in Returns. He was Music Supervisor, but four other people are credited as actual composers. Besides, whether Yamamoto did the soundtrack to Returns or not (which, I seriously doubt he did), the Returns soundtrack was bland and derivative. Even the remixes feel uninspired. The Tropical Freeze soundtrack isn't nearly as lifeless. Plus, even if Yamamoto were involved, nothing beats having the *original* DKC composer who wrote all the classics back for more original tunes.
@Sharpie47310 жыл бұрын
***** Huh.....did not know that in fact, and yeah I do agree that nothing beats having the original composer over someone else who wasn't involved with the original whatsoever.

Didn't like it. Too much noisy and lacks of a melody base as someone says. Perhaps 2:42 saves the song but, don't know I was expecting something better considering all the wonderful songs the game has.
@pedrogomezid11 жыл бұрын
"Too much noisy" What the actual fuck? It does have a melody base, it's just very intense and overwhelming because the Final Boss IS INTENSE AND OVERWHELMING. It also mixes in parts of the games' various themes.
@Serfo_11 жыл бұрын
Relax dude. I'm just comparing it with the rest of the set, and "IMO" is clearly average. I could add also that is too monotone for my taste. At least I'd prefer something a little bit faster if that's the case. The melody base just not stands out enough between all the noise, and the guitar solos.
