Sorry to be tardy to the party, but it really shows how much thought and care went into the level design. First level was a paradise in the savanna then later a thunderstorm/hurricane passes through which causes the aftermath in Scorch and Torch. Genius

Homecoming Hijink is the first level of the game's last world, which I believe is like a harder, condensed recreation of the entire previous game, but frozen over, with each level corresponding to an entire world from Returns. At the start of Tropical Freeze, the Kongs are kicked off their island by a group that's all about making things cold, and most of the game is spent just getting back. Along the way there's a lot of cool stuff the devs did from a thematic standpoint. I think each world features some manner of thematic progression as you go from one level to the next. For example, Scorch n Torch takes place in the game's savannah area during a wildfire. During the final leg of the previous level, which takes place during a storm, lightning starts becoming a problem, so it can be surmised that that same lightning caused the wildfire. My favorite example of this thematic progression idea is the game's fifth world. One of the members of the group who kicked the Kongs out has turned a section of jungle into his own personal juicing facility, where he has large amounts of fruit picked, processed, and juiced, and then has the juice stored and consumed as is, or turned into jellies and frozen treats. Each level in the fifth world has scenery, platforms, and obstacles that fit with the theme of whatever stage in the processing the level is about, whether it be a means of harvesting, processing, or even just seeing the various finished products. Punch Bowl is actually that world's boss level, and if I recall correctly the cutscene that plays before you fight the boss sees him enjoying some of the fruits of his minions' labor.

It’s a shame she doesn’t have context for scorch n torch. For reference, scorch n torch is the the same savannah from grassland groove during a wildfire, so you can picture the flute at the end of the loop as a sort of cry of pain.

This in my opinion is the best soundtrack of all time. Every theme goes so unfathomably hard and is full of that classic David Wise style but in a much more modern and experimental way than the SNES DKC Trilogy's soundtracks (which are all also amazing)

I will always speak the good word of Donkey Kong and David Wise, might be one of the most unstoppable forces in video game music. Tropical Freeze is one of, if not the best 2D platformers ever made. It's an INCREDIBLE experience from start to finish. Glad to see you vibing with this incredibly constructed soundtrack! Another game track you should check out is Hi-Fi Rush's OST, btw! Some absolutely INCREDIBLE songs on there.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze has one of the best soundtracks Nintendo has ever put out. David Wise (composer of DK) is a genius and loves his flutes. I HIGHLY recommend to listen to some of the rest of the soundtrack, especially some of the more relaxed songs like Twilight Terror or Amiss Abyss. Everything in this soundtrack is gold. Nice video 👍

This is my all time favorite video game ost and I'm so glad you chose this game to sample music from! This is only scratching the surface of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze-- the entire soundtrack is amazing, and I hope you consider a part 2 sometime! I hope you also consider other games in the Donkey Kong Country series because they are really amazing too. If you ever wanted to try something different for a video, you could consider doing a comparison of soundtracks, like Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country Returns, since the latter used a lot of the original themes from the former but changed them up a bit.

The context for Punch Bowl: DK and co land on a giant ice sheet floating in the center of some grape juice lake while a Polar Bear was eating his icy pop. The landing causes the bear to drop his pop into the water where piranhas ate it, and the Polar Bear attacks the Kongs in a Boss Battle.

tropical freeze is an absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack, I'd highly recommend you do a part 2. david wise is an insane composer. I will say, some of the picks here are a bit surprising. like, why'd they pick irate eight chase and blurry flurry? they're not bad or anything, but I'd say those two aren't on the level of the rest of the soundtrack. I feel like funky waters or irate eight tension would have been better for world 4, and for world 6, seashore war is the must listen. but I guess that's just all the more reason to do a part 2.
