Actually the DK with the tie is Donkey Kong Junior grown up. I think the original Donkey Kong became Kranky Kong or something like that.

@richard120473 Actually, if you read the Donkey Kong Country (First Game) Instruction Manuel, it says that Cranky Kong (the original DK) is the GRANDFATHER of the Donkey Kong we know and love today. So technically, the one "with the tie" is what I might call Donkey Kong III

@720Relapse Remember, the only imagery of Mario we had was from the arcade game, which wasn't very big in the graphic department, so they created the design for the show. Give them some credit though, he is voiced by Optimus Prime after all.

Hotshotter3000 i know this comment was from 9 years ago you probably googled the answer already, goodness youtube's been around for a while, but anyway i really wanted to answer your question. This was not the first video game cartoon. The first video game cartoon actually was the pac-man cartoon. That ran from 1982 to 1984. If i'm not mistaken i believe this dk series was part of bigger series that had cartoons about various arcade games. Like dig dug, q bert, all that stuff.
