Apart from very close relatives, Donna was the one I cried over days. What a heavenly combination of a highly talented artist and a good, solid, down to earth and funny human being...I have admired her as a singer and as the years went on also adored her as a human being. She is being enormously missed.
@SDSFG453 жыл бұрын
now, she....is one of the very few singers that I always like listening to, in conversation. Because her thought process is always intellectual...she's a thinker. You dont sustain a career in the music industry for well over 40 yrs, without smarts and couth. Chaka Khan is one of her best buddies...and she's said that Donna is fluent in German and Spanish. That doesn't surprise me at all, when you think about how long she lived in Europe before coming back to the States. Donna's death, felt like a punch in the stomach to me..because we all know, she had so much more to give to the industry she made a living in.

One of the things I liked about Donna was her humbleness. She said she didn't call herself the Queen Of Disco, but it's nice to be called that. Of course, she pokes fun of herself on her song "The Queen Is Back", but she was very humble. Unlike a lot of female singers who are (or were) self-absorbed and not quite so humble.

What a beautiful, intelligent, articulate, talented human being she was. Can't believe that in 2011 she looked almost like the way she did in 1989 on Arsenio. It's so fascinating to hear her talk about music, art, faith, and I can't wait for the Donna documentary, I can't wait to dive into her multifaceted personality and discover more about the way it reflected on her art. It's almost heartbreaking when she mentioned that she was "still healthy enough" to go on with her career. If you notice, she made a brief pause before saying that, while looking down. She looked like she had already lost a lot of weight, and her face is slimmer compared to early 2011. I believe this interview was shot in the first phase of her illness, (summer/fall 2011) when she was still positive about the outcome of her treatments. Sadly, in 2012 things took a turn for the worse.

“The Donna Summer musical” premiered on Broadway in 2018; which is a huge form of recognition that can serve as source material, not if, but when they [her Family/estate/Hollywood] get around to doing a movie or TV movie /series. However, sometimes these things take years. We finally got a Lifetime tv movie about Mahalia Jackson in April 2021. I remember seeing a great Mahalia Jackson Musical in Atlanta with Jennifer Holliday in the role back in the 90’s that didn’t make it to Broadway. Let’s give the “Queen of Disco” her flowers.

Some people forget how huge of a star she was in the 70's. I thought she was very polite with the interviewer who obviously wasn't that experienced at his job & where others might not have been so patient. I was so lucky to meet her when she released her autobiography at a book signing in London & it truly was a magic moment. I had with me the photo of her black Marilyn pose which the record company had sent to me when I was a teenager. She signed the book & photo for me which I totally treasure. Thank you for this interview. She was great. What a swell gal. I was born in 83. So kind of missed her major heyday. But I love what she says about how, to her, art is art and artists are artists and all the silly distinctions and ways in which the public tries to limit art and its creators with genre and sub-genre classifications. If the music is good the people will come, from all walks of life. My dad was a hardcore crust-punk who maintained his counter-culture edge through his whole life. He was the last person you’d look at and think, “Now this man must love Donna Summer,” but he did. And he taught me early just why she was/is so revered. The voice man. When you have chops like Donna did, you can (and should) sing it all. Gone too soon. Rest in power.
