The transition from Schubert to Giorgio Moroder gives me chills. I so wish she'd sung more of this fabulous song.

I agree, the Schubert works so well as a segue into I Feel Love!

She’s a straight Legend. Disco though.., probably the only musical genre that black people created, of which we are not proud.
@SWSimpson Жыл бұрын
She was so much more than just disco. She could sing anything. She could sing the phone book and people would be amazed. But, DISCO simply meant dance music throughout the rest of the world. But, right after the big disco sucks movement, Madonna comes out with a little bubblegum song called Holiday, and I hated it. It was cheap disco. But no matter what Donna recorded, there were some people who labeled it "disco" just because she recorded it. Then, there were ignorant racist people who thought that any danceable song from the 70s, sung by a black woman, was Donna Summer. Not fair to Gloria Gaynor and Thelma Houston or Bonnie Pointer, etc. That's why Bruce Springsteen wrote a song for Donna Summer. Well, two, but the first one he wrote, Cover Me, he kept it for himself. So, he wrote a second one called Protection (which you may already know), wherein Springsteen plays the solo lead guitar and sings backup vocals toward the end of the song. He wrote it for her because he believed the "disco sucks" movement was based on racism and he hated that. Springsteen's dearest friend was also his bass player, a tall black man, and in the middle of concerts, with Springsteen's beer drinking, blue collar audiences, Springsteen and his bass player would kiss LIVE on stage. He was Springsteen's soul mate, a brother. They spent a lot of time together, and the wife knew and was okay with it because she understood the love that these two men had for each other. That's why Springsteen hated racism so much. I wish I had known that back in the day as I would have been more supportive of him and listened to his music more than the occasional song on the radio or on MTV. I am really responding to the "of which we are not proud" part of the sentence. I am not ashamed of disco. Younger people understand it is just dance music from the 70s and they love it. If you listen to music from the 70s, a lot of it sounds dated, but the Bad Girls album, Mac Arthur Park, and I Feel Love sound fresh still. It's really remarkable what they did. I don't know why the rock n' rollers were so put out by disco, because they held different categories at the Grammy's and American Music Awards, so it wasn't in their way of success. Not really. There were some great rock ballads from the mid-70s. I like Dream Weaver a lot, and Love Hurts. I also liked some of KISS. Have a great 2024.
