People bad-mouth the disco era, but the 1970s were the best time of my life, and Donna Summer was a key part of it. Dance music still exists, it just isn't called disco anymore. Dancing all night in a virtual trance was addicting and an ecstatic feeling. And Ms. Summer had hit after hit, what a star.
@JC-yy8ivАй бұрын
The Disco Sucks movement really tarnished disco’s legacy, and that backlash was pure racism and homophobia. A bunch of white right-wing rock fans sick and tired of radio being dominated by Black and queer artists for half a decade, and it coincided with the beginning of the AIDS pandemic, at the time it was still being called “gay cancer,” a time during which homophobia returned with a vengeance, and lot of the social gains gay people had made since Stonewall in 1969 just evaporated. It’s such a shame that those haters in some ways were the ones who wrote disco’s epitaph.

Providence Civic Center, July 26th, 1981. No opening act. No additional singers. No chorus. (But why would you need 'em?) No accompanying dancers. (Thank God!) Only a few musicians with her. She ruled the stage, the evening. What a beautiful vision. Heavenly voice. She echoes, now, down through the decades. Thank you, Love. Sleep Well.

Aside from the gorgeous vocals, my favorite part of this whole thing is at the beginning. She goes "see i took something very precious and i.......*turns head* i dont think you understand...." and then tells us about how she sat her love out in the rain like a cake and it perished. Like that is the most diva moment for me rn.

@@7thWardCreole Once again, you guys are clueless. That was an era of Funk & Disco. Now, looking back for the non-beleivers that were so great music except for the Rick Dees trying to turn that era into a joke. In hindsight, with the orchestra sounds, you had so great music come out of that era. Rock only had a couple of groundbreaking songs that made an impact compared to funk and disco.

Quite honestly, I can’t fathom why this wonderful concert of the late Donna Summer hasn’t been released as of yet on Blu-ray, or DVD, or better yet released as a two sided disc accommodating to both formats.Blu-ray, and DVD with extras. Possible behind the scenes footage, and commentary. Hint Hint😜👍❤️ Considering that each of us reviewing this video clip have been lifetime fans of Donna Summer, & have invested so much of our loyalty, and support to Ms Summers, & her enormous catalog of music it would be a wonderful tribute to her memory, as well as a wonderful thank you to all of the loyal fans who like myself sincerely loved her talent, and her enormous catalog of music made throughout the decades. The release of that iconic live and more 1978 concert would be a wonderful thank you to all of those loyal fans who cherish her music so very much. To be honest it should’ve been released along time ago, and I don’t understand why it hasn’t been released as of yet. I find that extremely odd, & I’m a bit perplexed. Could it possibly be a copyright issue of some kind? What ever the issue may be, and whomever has the legal authority in regards to her estate to release that Live and More (1978) concert on DVD, and Blu-ray combo disc; would you please accommodate her many loving fans by releasing it already!! Once again, the Live and More (1978) concert. I can’t stress that enough. The (1978) Live and More concert.There’s a big market just salivating for that to be released eventually!!! I’m one of those many fans who loved Donna Summers music. Thank you🤞🏻

i remember getting the 'live and more' album when it came out. oh my, what a treat to hear this incredible performer perform live and .... well clearly more. the whole album is terrific, listening to hit after hit and many more. the way she takes you along her journey and insists 'i can't make you feel good if you don't feel good already'. that line has stayed with me my whole life. it really is a sunsational mantra. this was on side two of album two and consisted of the entire side. i'd never heard of that until then, and that alone thrilled me. she had such a talent, and i've only just relatively recently learned that she wrote a lot of her music too. she had a lot of great hits, and this is one of my favourites. she sings, oh my how she sings. what a joy to listen to her again. thanks for posting, love and peace to you and all, xxxxxxx
