Dale Jr.'s first job was for the Alabama Gang, and he still has his first pay stub! Donnie Allison laughs while telling the story of how Dale Earnhardt Sr. had called them up and asked if they could give Dale Jr a job because he "can't do anything with him."

Donnie was on my Dale Jr bucket list. The man is an absolute treasure. I had family in Hueytown back in the day, pre-tragedy. I was told if Bobby was on his porch with a glass of sweet tea you could go up and talk to him. I'll never forget that and vividly remember Ms Judy bringing me a sweet tea. I got to drink sweet tea with Bobby and just listen to him talk. He told me stories I treasure to this day. They're great memories for me. I really wish I had the opportunity to meet Donnie but Bobby told a couple funny Donnie stories. THANK YOU DALE, MIKE, DONNIE, AND ALL OF DIRTY MO, this is definitely Top 3 Dale Jr D/L episodes

I'll bet that "Sweet Tea" was a National Treasure. It should've been frozen and donated to the Smithsonian where it could be brought out only on special holidays where it's "underrated goodness" could be discussed "all day long.

I live in Alabama and I'm now north of Hueytown but know it well. I'm 56 so I've been here long enough to have been around when Davey was driving around town acting like Davey. Those shops are amazing. I have always been so proud of the Alabama Gang and miss them so much. Never will they be forgotten.

I'm glad Donnie got into his Supermodified and Indy car stuff here. Many don't really know how good an Indy car driver Donnie was. Supers are the last vestiges of the old Indy roadsters. Back when Donnie was driving them they were probably still using stock car frames and then cutting them down ( pre Todd Gibson Flintstone Flyer car). But his Super experience set him up for his Indy car racing like he said. Donnie didn't just race at Indy. He drove at Pocono in its inaugural Indy car race, Phoenix,and either Trenton or Milwaukee. I've heard that A.J Foyt kinda wanted him to drive a second car for him but Donnie went back stock car racing instead. Bobby Allison drove for Roger Penske in the 1973 Indianapolis 500 but blew up early...

Our parents made us four kids get our "working papers" on our thirteenth birthday. Went to work in my aunt and uncles pizza place. Wow, those ovens made sure I didn't have an ounce of fat on me. Our kids got their papers on their birthday too. My kids work too much while I see others disabled at twenty. Shame how far these kids have fallen. And why?? Single parent household. Money from the state for lottery tickets and medicinal weed. Think I'm kidding? Sit outside a convenient store or dispensary first of the month.
@gullreefclub
@gullreefclub Жыл бұрын
Not sure what lottery tickets, medical marijuana have to with people of any age not wanting to work for a living. I was raised by my mother (my father was killed by a drunk driver when I was 8) That said I started cutting lawns, shovel snow, racking leaves, etc when I was 10 and gave 3/4 of the money I made to my Mom and my younger sister (one year younger) and I split the remainder of the money. She would help me doing lawn work but mostly she would keep the house clean, do the laundry, tend the garden and help with the cooking while our mother worked two jobs neither of which had benefits or payed that good. I got my first real job the summer of 13th birthday. The neighbor up the street who I had been cutting his lawn since I was 10 owned a masonry contracting company and offered me a job. It was that summer I learned what hard work was as well as how to drink beer and smoke cigarettes and weed. My sister took over my lawn cutting business which I had built up to 35 yards a week (As a FYI my sister and I cut lawns using a push mower and bagged and raked up the lawn clippings and humped them back home to turn them into compost for our garden. An if you are wondering the farthest yard (house) from our home was a mile as the crow flies.) My sister and I both have grandchildren who are just becoming tweens and they all have their house chores and have side hustle jobs such as walking dogs, cutting grass, weeding gardens and flower beds, raking leaves, shoveling snow etc. My sister’s and my grandchildren like their parents have to bank 3/4 of the profits from their jobs. The money my children voluntarily put in the bank after hearing about me giving my mother 3/4 of my earnings and splitting the remainder with my sister paid for their college tuition (and yes they all worked 30 plus hours a week plus carrying a full credit load of classes. The point of this rambling is in my opinion people don’t want to work/become lazy because they never learned how to work. Not every job is mentally, emotionally, or physically rewarding, to be honest most aren’t but if you learn how to work you learn to accept your job for what it is and that is a way to make a living. Additionally as long as you are in control of your drinking, smoking, lottery playing, spending etc, etc. I don’t see a problem with any of that. The problem we have today is people want to eat their cake without doing anything to pay for it.
