will hair spray work? or could you just spray the clay with a adhesive then just dust it with the chalk?

Thanks so much for sharing all your methods! I just tried using dry chalk and paraffin wax as a sealant. Then I looked on YT to see if any one ever tried it. Your methods seem much better for flying targets than mine. but I haven't tried to shoot mine yet. The spray glue looks great but I am afraid the glue will effect how the thrower will launch the target. I know you said the glue dries so you cant tell its glue, but do you think it will be in a trap thrower? Thanks again! - Joe

Go back and view the vid again. I wasn't using spray paint. I was using spray glue. One was Locktite, and the other was Elmers, but I'm pretty sure any brand of spray glue/adhesive would work OK. Donnie D

Just ran across this video, of all the methods for making flash clay targets, which method had the best performance in terms of the chalk puff showing, Donnie?

Not a lot of difference in any as far as seeing the chalk puff, but the tape method is probably the best for that, because the chalk is used dry from the start. The easiest, and my favorite method is using the chalk/alcohol slurry method. Use the 91% alcohol for quickest dry time. The method in this vid is a good way as well.

@@D148521 thanks for the posting. Is the 91% alcohol only important for quick drying? Will a lower percent work to make the slurry?

Would this save you money over just paying extra for the flash clays in the first place? Seems like a lot of work when you can just buy 90 flashes for only $10 more?

If you can find them. Many companys won't ship clays to homes because of the number of broken clays, but yes, If I could find someone that would ship them to me for only $10 more per box, I certainly would go that route.

Just mix the color chalk with rubbing alcohol and pour, leave overnight.

I see what you're saying now. I don't think it will make a strong enough shell over the chaulk, but, I'm definately gonna try it. You may just be on to something. I'll let you know. Thanks for the idea. Donnie D

i have an idea , if you mix 3 parts flour 1 part colored chalk you'll get more bang for your buck.

Couple more ideas i'll throw your way , you can get already made sticky backs to cover the powder in just about any size without going to the trouble of cutting up duct tape ..(see example ) www.amazon.com/InStockLabels-Coding-Labels-Adhesive-Stickers/dp/B00JVSWODS. Another idea is to use empty paper pepper packets filled with powder , one small squirt of adhesive on the bottom of the clay bowl and simply stick it on nothing else needed and it's biodegradable too.

Donnie D I use the duct tape method I put a piece of paper in between the chalk and the tape use less chalk but you get a decent flash. Blue and purple and green and red work great too. Try putting a piece of paper in between the chalk and the tape. Let me know thanks

@@carlbeane9227 Ok. Yes they are orange. The chalk is for seeing the impact better, and partly just for fun. If you ever shoot one of these, you'll see what I mean. Try some. You can also buy them if you can find them.
