Oh the songs of old. They're always a blessing. Nothing compared to the repetitive songs of today. I believe the songs of yesteryear were written from experience not today's charisma.

A grand, grand old hymn of the joy of salvation. The Lord has found His lost sheep and as the Good Shepherd will bring home His own. Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own.

Love the deep theology found in the old hymns ... I'll never forget in 2007, when my brother was a very-concerning prodigal, that my mother started quietly crying when this piece was playing in my car. It was reassuring to her that someday that son could be in the "fold." Now 4 years after her Homegoing, the answer to her prayers for this son may be seeing fruition - but we're not there yet. Praying for the unsaved in our families often takes perseverance. Never stop.

I own this dvd/cd and I love it to pieces. This song, among many of the dvd, is such a blessed reminder of the Lord's story about the lost sheep. Donny Sumner sings it so well too. I love the Gaithers. All of their music with all the homecoming friends has been such a blessing to me in my walk with the lord. Whether at work or home, I take them with me.

1. There were ninety and nine that safely lay In the shelter of the fold. But one was out on the hills away, Far off from the gates of gold. Away on the mountains wild and bare. Away from the tender Shepherd's care. Away from the tender Shepherd's care. 5. And all through the mountains, thunder riven And up from the rocky steep, There arose a glad cry to the gate of Heaven, "Rejoice! I have found My sheep!" And the angels echoed around the throne, "Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own!

This was a song first sung by Ira David Sankey in a D. L. Moody meeting. The author was a woman Elizabeth Clephane, a resident of Melrose, Scotland. This song was born as Ira David Sang the words as the Holy Spirit gave him the tune! If any remember, this is taken from the parable "The ninety and nine" and the shepherd went after just one lost sheep when the other 9o and 9 were safe! The meaning of the parable is that "there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner that repents than 99 just persons who need no repentance."

There were ninety and nine that safely lay In the shelter of the fold; But one was out on the hills away, Far off from the gates of gold. Away on the mountains wild and bare; Away from the tender Shepherd’s care. “Lord, Thou hast here Thy ninety and nine; Are they not enough for Thee?” But the Shepherd made answer: “This of Mine Has wandered away from Me. And although the road be rough and steep, I go to the desert to find My sheep.” But none of the ransomed ever knew How deep were the waters crossed; Nor how dark was the night the Lord passed through Ere He found His sheep that was lost. Out in the desert He heard its cry; ’Twas sick and helpless and ready to die. “Lord, whence are those blood-drops all the way, That mark out the mountain’s track?” “They were shed for one who had gone astray Ere the Shepherd could bring him back.” “Lord, whence are Thy hands so rent and torn?” “They’re pierced tonight by many a thorn.” And all through the mountains, thunder-riv’n, And up from the rocky steep, There arose a glad cry to the gate of heav’n, “Rejoice! I have found My sheep!” And the angels echoed around the throne, “Rejoice, for the Lord brings back His own!”
