I took private drumming lessons from Donny in high school. Great drummer, and great guy!!

I went to high school and was in band and orchestra with Donny. Saw him play at the freshmen talent show where he the the West Side Story Overture. This guy is scarry talented. Mentored by Buddy Rich, the greatest jazz drummer.

So was that inspiration to keep on going his wife? The best job in the world = When you do what you love and love what you're doing.

After seeing this guy play many times, Donny Osborne has just about everything that Buddy had, technique, speed, rhythmical chops, save one vital ingredient... POWER He's not alone, every BR contender i have ever seen falls down hard when it comes this. Buddy played with a powerful aggressive drive that is impossible to match, or is it? The answer is simple, be an angry man. Just think about it, Buddy intensely disliked the society around him, he was an outspoken angry man and he Channeled his frustrations through his playing.

Stop comparing every drummer to Buddy Rich. Each talent brings their unique personality to the playing. D.O. Has great technique and softness….like his personality, humble-an historical style worthy to imitate and derive you own licks. Also, like the other comment said, no one had the power and intensity of Rich….lifting weights won’t do it!

some people can't remember what drumming is all about in that they expect everyone to do massive solos with all the visuals etc. BUT Donny O, has had a great career as a time keeper ----- thumbs up Donny ! ! ! !

He deserves to sit in as a guest with the Buddy Rich Tribute band , because of his history with Buddy ...and talent.

Kudos, Donny.

Buddy’s style, without the power and speed...and Slingerland/ Ludwig sound. That’s not a criticism, just stating a fact...the same applies to most drummers.
@BigBillLucas5 жыл бұрын
Agree completely. I wounder what would've happened if someone had said to him "you suck" just before he started playing. Would he... 1. Say fuck you and play the solo of his life. 2. Sit there and mope. Probably the latter i think. Basically this guy has all the BR skills but no drive to back it up. I have yet to see a drummer with both.

@@BigBillLucas He would be a great guest drummer, for the BUDDY RICH TRIBUTE BAND..

He sounded better on the video he was playing Slingerland. Different sounding kit completely.

Buddy Rich on Valium here. Donny is a brilliant drummer and the closest there is to Buddy Rich...his mentor. I hope DW use him to promote their new Slingerlands....there wouldn’t be a more fitting person.

I wonder how Donny honestly compares DWs to Slingerlands .
@HadEnough7454 жыл бұрын
Sounds like someone fooling around on the kit. Donny is a good player BUT if you're gonna play in the style of Buddy Rich, you need a phenomenal left hand and Don's left hand is not even close to Buddy or Morello.

Donny pushing DWs. Buddy Rich used DWs January 1983 and didn’t like them, so never used them again. He went back to his Radio King Slingerlands, right through to his death in 1987.

…like jazz pianists, some are soft and some hard and swinging. Think Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson….

Always have another stick handy. You should have gone into left hand combinations with the bass drum..Buddy would have.

Mr. Osborne...permit me to introduce you to the late, great Buddy Rich. Consequently, your uninspiring drum solo is completely inane.
