Still looking for the key in Donny's back no matter how strange that may sound but he just keeps going & going & never winds down. He is more like a 30 year old not 65 & the voice is flawless; he has really looked after himself. Way to go Donny.

It's good to see Donny wearing a costume again. That was what drew me to go to concerts back then. Not only to see them preform, but to se the costume they would wear.Don't care so much to see him preforming in a suit.

I have always loved Donny's sense of playfulness and humor. I am 55 yrs old and have been following him since the 1970s. Part of Donny's problem back then was his voice changed, but his real problem is he never really learned how to sing. Donny's gift was so natural and so original. If you recall, Donny and his brothers started out doing barbershops and learned to play many instruments. I would consider their voices to be another instrument in a band or orchestra. When you study voice, a person learns there is much more to singing than simply crafting a sound in an instrumental sort of way. I think Donny was/is an incredibly gifted performer with a very unique sound. I loved his younger higher sound, like puppy love, but love even more the very underused, underdeveloped lower register that he used in the song "I'm Dyin'". There were songs that he would crescendo at a certain point and could only go a certain amount louder or lose that "Donny" sound he is known for. There are other things that voice lessons would have helped him with. With all that said, I have enjoyed listening to and watching Donny perform for a number of decades.

A while back now Donny had a surfing accident and has a metal plate near his Adams apple! He had to train his voice really well after that. Even before that though, a great vocal achievement was 'Close Every Door' in Joseph! I couldn't believe it was him when I first heard it! Do take a listen!
@craigslivka1 Жыл бұрын
@@moirahewitt2666 Most of what I wrote was about before the surfing accident. Also the past decade I have been watching many things that I have not seen since they were first aired. Like the time Donny was flown in via a helicopter to open a concert just after the original Donny and Marie show and flew down a metal wire which I watched for the second time recently both in awe and horror. Donny in an interview said that since he was always singing, and did not really have a childhood, he liked being adventurous in his adult years. There are videos of Donny doing many things that could have resulted in a major accident and thank all the is good that nothing major happend till his surfing accident, which resulted in many years of magnificent entertainment.
@craigslivka1 Жыл бұрын
@@moirahewitt2666 I have heard Donny do Joseph, and feel it is one of his weaker moments. The show had been watered down musically since the original which I saw with Bill Hutton and watched Donny struggle with some of the more vocally powerful moments. Donny's voice was/is similar to Karen Carpenter's voice in the sense that it was not a loud sound, it could be powerful with some tones, but it was/is a very unique blend of style and vocal instrument.
@craigslivka1 Жыл бұрын
@@moirahewitt2666 also having to relearn how to speak/sing again can be very different than training/retraining your voice. After any operation, your body has to make adjustments to cope and survive. I think what Donny had to do was go back and learn how to retrain his voice to use it with the modification due to the surgery and the recovery. This has little to do with singing. That is another entire ball of wax entirely. The very fact that Donny can still sing, I think is a major achievement. Whether or not he can sing pre-accident. I don't think so. It is kind of like Liza said after her two new knees and a hip, that after relearning how to use her body again, she had to relearn how to dance, and after that, there were things she could do and their things done in limiting modifications and things that were and outright no-no.
