The 462 is the only pro saw sitting on my local dealers shelf in stock, and probably the most underated Stihl pro saw. If you like a 372 you will like a ported 462. I have seen a few bearing, and one piston failure in the early version. I would like to destratify an early version to get more oil on the piston like I do the 372 x-torque, along with 32:1 or 40:1 Bel-ray H1-r to help make the early version last. The 462 has proven to be the most reliable of the m-tronic, fuel injected or auto-tune saws in my neck of the woods and these revisions should make it even better. Thanks for sharing Donny.

I just started working for Nelson Tree Service, they have a few ms462, ms261, ms201c. Pretty good saws so far.

My 462 with the bark box is way louder than the 661 you just did for me. Crazy the 661 is not as loud with the bark box. Also I think the 462 pulls hard than the 661 I hate to say it. Was shocked to see the 462 pull harder

Man! I'm still trying to find a replacement piston for my older 462 at a reasonable price. Stihl Price is off it's chops in Australia, and the only aftermarket piston I can find is the Little Red barn one which I'm a bit reluctant.

Parts are expensive in Australia how much for oem there

@@hotpotatoz The cheap alternative for me is I found the 441 big bore piston is nearly exactly the same except I will have to groove the inlet slot in it which the 462 piston has. It's a cheap alternative that I willthink will work. I didn't want to drop a couple of hundred bucks on a genuine because I got the saw in a hundred pieces, so I didn't want to throw good money after bad if it had other problems. I think the aftermarket 441 BB piston only cost just over 10 bucks as opposed to over $200.

I called Stihl USA today and they told me that the new parts are in the 462CM starting serial number 191 and above.

I just bought a new 462 that was dated Dec 21. I was wondering if mine was the new version. The serial number does start with 191 so it must be

My 462cm was manufactured in February of 2022. Was the new cylinder and piston in the saws made in February?

Great video, Thank You. I'm a newb when it comes to building saws... I Mostly walked away from dirt track racing to play with saws annnnnd I'm absolutely loving it. lol. What would you say are the ideal numbers for intake/exhaust durations on the different classes (70-80-90-120+cc)? The guys out here typically run 20 to 28" bars.
