A total nightmare. We took our whole adult family with lots of grandchildren on our 40th anniversary cruise. I paid for ocean view rooms for everyone, because I was scared that the grandkids would get out of control on a balcony. Yea, I was a little paranoid, but I could sleep better at night.

makes no sense, I think you just wanted to spend less, you can't stop things from happening if they're going to happen. You teach your kids and hope for the best, that's just the way it is, what's next, no stake cause they might choke.? Do you know how many kids have been on those balconies and nothing has happened.? I feel bad ffor all, but it's impossible to avoid every dangerous situation, it's up to people to do the right thing, a 12 year old knows better.

@@dilochetty9332 absolutely. Unless the child is 7 ft tall, he/she clearly climbed and jumped and then fell to their death. Adults do not fall. They jump. we were on that cruise. The Alpha call came out during early dinner. Put a damper on the cruisers. Pray for the family.

This is absolutely devastating, especially as a mum of an almost 12 year old boy. My thoughts are with the family. I will definitely be having some serious conversations with my children before our next cruise.

5 stories, as there is no deck 13. But that doesn't change anything. So tragic!

I'm 73. I never boom a balcony cabin or even go next to the rails on deck in case I fall over somehow. I always book inside cabins and walk on the inside if the decks by the walls, not by the sea rail. Just in case.
