Both are great. S&B is larger with a more aggressive tone but will probably dirty faster with the open side port. CAI little quieter due to being sealed but the aluminum build is slick and tucked away. Performance is similar I think. I am keeping both and saving one for another project….

How does this compare with the S&B Cold Air Intake for 2019-2021 Silverado part # 75-5128 you did an install video on about a year ago? I need to get one & which one of your honest opinion is better?
@Donslife3 жыл бұрын
Both are very good. In my opinion the S&B is a little louder but may get dirtier faster due to the open port on the drivers side. I feel they are both excellent products. The S&B takes up more space and looks aggressive while the Cold Air Inductions model is more subtle. Partly due to the retention of the factory base for the box.

@636ft Жыл бұрын
Which intake would you recommend more? This Cold Air Inductions, or the S&B from a previous video of yours from about 2 years ago. The Air Inductions looks easier/quicker to install, but the S&B looks to have a larger filter and more openings in the air box to allow more air, also has the optional block off plate. Other difference I noticed is the aluminum (I'm guessing) tube on the Air Inductions vs the plastic on the S&B. Kindly let me know what your experience with both lead you to prefer. (I'm mainly looking for better sound / throttle response) (I've been watching your Sierra videos for a while, and done a lot of the same mods, want to order an intake this week, Borla exhaust is next. ;-) Thank you.

Hi there! You’ve listed off most of the facts. The S&B will deliver the more aggressive sound and that’s what I am running in the AT4. I moved the Cold Air Inductions one into the Escalade and it fits the personality well.

@@Donslife Hello again, I got the S&B intake and installed it on my 2020 Sierra 1500 5.3L. You were 100% accurate with the "more aggressive sound" description. Just have (2) more questions: -What did you end up doing with the "Silicone Box Plug" aka the optional block off plate? Install it or leave it out? I left it out but may install it to see what effect it has. And -Have you used the S&B Filter Wrap (Part#: WF-1064) with this intake? I look forward to your response. Thank you.
@Donslife Жыл бұрын
@@636ft you just brought the wrap to my attention. It must be relatively new. I didn’t take out the additional plug until several after the install. It made everything a bit louder. I put it back in eventually but not really out of concern. It is good either way. I didn’t notice a performance difference.

How does the aluminum keep the air cooler vs plastic when aluminum is an efficient thermal conductor and in general terms, plastic is a good thermal insulator. It gets more complicated when looking at surface area and wall thickness - wouldn't the aluminum transfer the heat from the ambient temperature inside the engine bay more efficiently vs plastic?
@velr50gt Жыл бұрын
Personally I would not install any cold air induction with a metal pipe. It defeats the purpose. There’s a reason why OEM has moved into plastic not only for weight savings but thermal efficiency.

@Donslife3 жыл бұрын
Right from Cold Air Inductions’ website: - No. In the United States, for the manufacturer of a warranted product (in this case, a vehicle) to void or deny warranty coverage of a repair due to the use of an aftermarket part (a Cold Air Inductions, Inc. air filter or intake system), the manufacturer must provide proof (evidence) that the aftermarket part is the cause of the necessary repair. These rights are protected under the Consumer Products Warranty Act of 1975 (also referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act).

My dealership here said he won’t do a cold air intake unless it comes from the factory. Apparently they tune the engine to the intake and it voids warranty if it’s not from factory. Thoughts?
@Donslife3 жыл бұрын
The GMC performance intake for this truck needs a tune. This brand does not. As for warranty, this is what is on the website and it is a very similar statement by other aftermarket companies - No. Personally I have never had a problem including my Mazda RX-8 that had two motors replaced under warranty (the replacement failed on the mechanic’s test drive) and it had a high end CAI installed the whole time. I have had intakes on Ford, Chevy, GMC, BMW, Mazda and Honda - no voided warranty concerns

A heads up for anyone owning a GMC/Chev with the 5.7 or 6.2 engines from 2019-2023. Research proves GM is trying to protect themselves from the added costs of replacing a defective oil cooler line.The issue is at the engine block where the inlet and out cooler lines attach to a external adaptor to the engine block. When the outside temperature is cold and you start your engine, the engine oil heats up. At some point the high pressure line will have a catastrophic failure dumping your oil on the the pavement. If not shut down quick enough, your engine will lock up. GM not only has a national back order on the oil cooler line but also has a back order on the engines leaving you without a truck and possible payments. Proof is in the pudding! Research “Global Safety Field Investigations DCS5833. GM says the defect only on certain VIN trucks sold in Canada and Alaska. This is false! Research proves trucks in several states who have diverse cold temperatures are having cooler line failures. Look up GM N212326940 This should be a National Recall for every GM/Chev. truck sold! ATTENTION: If You have purchased these trucks, PURCHASE the Extended Warranty package that covers the engine/transmission. GM is getting away not paying on vehicles after 60,000 miles until the owners file enough complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and NHTSA. I was able to purchase the cooler line from the Chev dealer in Canada but after it was installed, they said the 6.2L engine was locked up would need to be replaced on my extended warranty
