I would think about an outside pond, with one deep area (below freeze area) if you have really hot weather and or really cold winters. If you gets flooding in area, put up a fence with holes that he won't be able to get through and make sure the bottom is not above ground where he could scoot out from under the fence during flood. Or have flood run off pipes too small for him to get through or have covers (have to keep cover holes clear of debris though). Toss in a few tilapia to breed and feed him naturally. Can have water filter to keep water clear so you can see him on the regular during good months. Or go with fresh water swimming pool and use naturals to keep water clean and clear instead of chemicals.

And then he stuck several other large fish in there with him, so now he's back to having no room again. 🤦🏻♀️😒 Sorry, but it's ridiculous. He's gonna have to build that fish a pond about the size of a swimming pool next. And then... it will outgrow even that. Hope he's prepared to give it the space it deserves, and will quit forcing it to share it with too many other fish. Not unless he wants to wake up one morning, and see dead, mutilated fish floating in there, cuz the Catfish killed 'em due to stress.

If you got another plastic pond and cut the bottom of the new pond out then stacked it on top would it work?
@The_Darkness_of_Space3 ай бұрын
Not really because since they're bottom dwelling fish they need more ground space than height/total gallons

No because catfish occupy the bottom of the tank, so you need to expand the tank floor’s surface area. Vertical volume doesn’t matter compared to surface area of tank bottom for bottom feeders like catfish.

Ngl, this makes me want one! It's all about whether or not you can mentally and financially commit to such a creature and honestly I am 0% deterred. I'd devote my life savings to raising such a radical fish

I remember the redtail catfish that was at The Ocean Floor aquarium place we used to go to. The first time I can remember gaining sapience and remembering him, I was around 6 when we'd gone back, and he was bigger than me. I'm 31 and 6'0 now. They, I think with the proper tanks and such, can get to the size of a full grown person, or even bigger. Good luck!

My friend got a redtail once. The only other thing in the tank was some type of freshwater eel, that was a good 3-4" longer than the redtail.....but that didnt stop him.
