I thought long and hard about buying this but I ended up getting the 6 inch Airvantge. Its a couple hundreds dollars less. So far Im real happy with it.

I tried out the surfprep branded version of that. (Same thing different color scheme). I think the dust collection on the Mirka is better but they are both great sanders

For using net paper I'd add an interface pad if you haven't already to preserve main pad life.

Yes. I probably failed to mention that I had one one there. Thanks for the comment. That is an important part when using net abrasives

OK, if you use a protection pad on the 6" Deros pad, it will allow all the Festool paper holes to flow, if you think you really need it, many find they don't. And the 5" festool 8 + 1 hole paper lines up on the Deros sanders. I talked to Mirka US, and they are working on better advertisement of the "two in one" sander aspect of the 650-CV, like they do with the "DEROS 5650CV Orbital Sander Sanding Machine 125 + 150 MM" in the UK and EURO markets. The 5650CV is the UK/EURO equivalent of the 650CV, FYI. All the Best, Chuck

Robert, accept my apology for not thanking you for putting together such an informative video on the details of the Deros 650 CV in my original comment. It would have clarified several questions I had that took a string of emails between Mirka, a distributor, and myself to get answered. Most of the information from these emails were in my first comment, kind of a data dump, sorry. All the Best, Chuck

I have the 230v Deros 5650 with a UK plug. Will I be able to use it in the USA? If I attach the usa version of the cord? Did the machine handle the voltage difference?
@toolchuck
@toolchuck 3 ай бұрын
@@cden-ec7cy Short answer, yes you can. Longer answer, it must be a "220-240v" plug, it won't run on 110-120v. It will run fine on 220v to 240v, depending on what is being supplied to your home/shop. I can't post links, so search for; Leviton 15 Amp 250-Volt NEMA Industrial-Grade Straight Blade Plug, and Leviton 15 Amp Commercial Grade Grounding Single Outlet. Home Depot or Lowes will have them, also you'll need a 220v-240v source. If you already have a 220v-240v source, find out what the breaker is rated at and get the proper outlet (if needed) and plug for it. If not, I listed 15amp as this is ample for your needs and only requires 14-gauge wire if you need to install and run wire, a 20amp circuit (with the appropriate outlet and plug) will work as well. If you have any other questions or need more details, let me know, we can chat elsewhere. All the Best, Chuck

@@cden-ec7cy yes but you’ll have to run it on 220/240 not 110/120. I hope this helps.

Dude, the Mirka is the king of sanders, if combined with Mirkas Abranet. Using different sanding paper or net makes the king into just a good sander.

My 5" Deros is perfect for my usage - small precision projects usually in exotic hardwoods. The 5" allows me very, very fine control and precision in keeping flats flat. The 6" would be too unwieldy for this work. I really love my Mirka Deros.

Weird question - why would you want a 125mm over 150mm?
@DaileyWoodworks
@DaileyWoodworks 6 ай бұрын
I like the smaller pad when I’m sanding face frames. It’s more nimble and easier to maneuver. But the 150mm stays on the bulk of the time

So what happens if you put the 125mm pad on the 650
@DaileyWoodworks

Probably nothing. Both are a 1/4"x20 thread. There are some balance screws on the unit that I would think they just set for each model.

What deros would you recommend for drywall ?
@DaileyWoodworks

No idea I don’t do drywall work. I know Festool makes the planex specifically for drywall that people love. Idk if Mirka makes their own dedicated drywall sander

So you can’t put 6” pad on 5” deros?
@DaileyWoodworks
@DaileyWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
You are not supposed to. My assumption is it has to do with how the balancing weights are set up. This 5” pad is weighted to be the same as the 6”. It would probably be fine, but for such an expensive investment I didn’t want to risk it.

@@DaileyWoodworks i can see why but i did buy mine as 5 “ and recently bought 6” pad however never tried it yet so will see,, also unfortunately had to send my sander for repair third time in 4 years so end up buying air vantage sander ( very similar to mirka) and that i got 6” so maybe i will never put that 6” pad on mirka .i really consider festool but i have tried it and compared to mirka its not good at all imo
@DaileyWoodworks
@DaileyWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
@@woodworkchannel3353 the thread sizes are the same so all the pads should fit. FYI the AirVantage is the exact same sander as the surfprep brand sanders. I tried a friends and it was nice but got really hot.

Hi, What about de Deros 8mm? Do you think it's better? or just a question of more power ?
@DaileyWoodworks
@DaileyWoodworks Жыл бұрын
The biggest the stroke the faster and more aggressive the removal. So it won’t leave as good of a finish. I have a festool Rotex I use for heavy sanding 120grit and below and then use the Mirka for 120 and above. I would think the 8mm Mirka would be used the same as the rotex

So is there any advantage at all to the 5” model over the 6” with the adapter?

Not that I can find. We mostly use the 6” then pop the 5” pad on for getting into smaller places. It takes about 10-20 seconds to change the pads
