It was my first time seeing this PSA, and let me tell you, it definitely pulled my heartstrings and grabbed my attention. Too many people are distracted by texting while driving. If you think you can multi-task, it is not a good idea. You don't know what other drivers are doing. Plus, you never know what you might do, like accidentally drop your phone and instinctively try to pick it up WHILE driving. Sh*t Happens.

This is so common and likely a frequent thing these days, hopefully with much different endings, but not just inexperienced young people text and drive! Pull over if the message is important, out of traffic and other possible hazards. Very effective message and I wish something of equal attention could be produced as I would air it on my station; some messages are good but radio never hits home like TV!

I hope this woke some people up to just how dangerous it is. It's actually far, far more distracted than being on the phone or changing the radio station. I've never understood how texting while driving became normalized anyway, it's actually really scary how common it is. Imagine if playing a Game Boy while driving was normalized. It's almost the same thing.

@tgentry25210 жыл бұрын
The producers stated that the New Zealand ad is where they got the idea. I wouldn't say it was a rip off. I would say they compliment each other. The New Zealand is about speeding while this one is about Texting.
@DUANEYAISER10 жыл бұрын
Tony Gentry Yes to both of you. PSA's are meant to be effective, and this one was. That said, the original seemed to be much more natural, and I'm just gonna say it, had better actors too. But who cares? If this does the job than it's a job well done.

@SaravanjaSteele9 жыл бұрын
Alifidy I like this better than the New Zealand speeding PSA, because that PSA makes it look like the guy going fast is at fault, when it's really the dumbass who doesn't look before pulling out. This PSA makes it perfectly clear that the texter is at fault.
@salvadoravila14047 жыл бұрын
Actually the NZ PSA makes it quite clear that they're both at fault, one is going too fast and the other one didn't calculate correctly. When it says at the end "Other people make mistakes, slow down." it's a pretty straight critique that whenever any of us drive too fast it's under the assumption that "we'll be fine, we won't make mistakes" (even if speeding is in itself a mistake), well let's assume that we're right and we'll never make a mistake. What about the rest of the world around us? Someone runs a red light, crosses the street without looking both ways, a tire blows out, etc.

I'd say in order for drivers to take more responsible actions so they don't text while driving, they need to tell their friends who might text them that they are going out to drive, and thus their friends cannot text them while they are driving. It seems many texters don't take a hint that the person on the other online end is too busy or preoccupied with something.

I got it set up that my phone says who is calling or texting me when I drive if it's a text it'll say "Message from" this way I know not to answer it while driving. If it's a call and my phone is hooked up to the car (Normally my mom's Focus for now) it'll say "Call From" and I'll just press the answer button on the steering wheel with my eyes on the road. If I need to call someone I'll press a button on the steering wheel and tell it to call the person but I will not text in a car while it's moving. If it's important I'll get off the roadway (If on a freeway exit then park in a close by parking lot. If on a road turn into a close by parking lot) and answer the text.

realistically, they all would’ve been ok. this is a country road in a fairly developed area (as evidenced by the tall buildings seen in the background) so the speed limit would be 30-40mph (48-64 kmph). the cars both appear to be somewhat new (2009-2011 honda pilot for the teenager, 2006-2010 ford explorer for the mom) so they would have crumple zones and advanced airbags. you could argue that the mom would hit that pole, but if the teenager hits the brakes, there shouldn’t be enough momentum. plus, the back wheels wouldn’t turn, so the car would instead just skid. you may think “well, what if it rolls over?” for this, i researched the car’s safety ratings. (2010 model years used for both). the mother’s car has an excellent safety rating, and shouldn’t roll over with a collision at 40mph. the teenager’s car performed poorly with small front overlap collisions but good with moderate overlap collisions. so the front passengers may have broken legs. (i’ll talk more about injuries later.) as for the kids in the mom’s car, they look to be around 11 and 8. her son is most likely in a booster seat and both of them will have airbags, along with the mother. they will be flung around a bit in their seat, but their seatbelts will keep them in place. likely injuries teenager’s car: front passengers will have broken legs or at least a leg injury. if the windshield is broken, there could be glass related injuries. rear passengers will likely be completely fine mom’s car: all passengers should walk away without a scratch. the windshield may break, but should only cause minor injuries. if the car rolls over there may be some heavy whiplash, or concussions in heavy situations, which are unlikely. P.S.: at the beginning the teenager just looks like she’s just going to drive off the road, not into the mom’s car lol
