Demonstration of what I did on my DT Poppy/Slalocybins as a preventive measure against kingpin snap.

Nice illustration, thank you. I haven't modified mine yet and also wondered should I go deeper and at small angle off the bolt axis.

Hi Max, I think round the edge to reduce stress concentration should be good enough. So I guess it is not necessary to go deeper.

Long term update question... It helped? (If you ever snapped a kingpin, I never did on my Exile Hydras in 2 years, changing the kingpin yearly)

Hello, Actually, I'm not sure. I've never snapped a kingpin, though I guess it's because I'm not heavy enough (147 lbs) or I'm not riding hard enough. It seems that those people who report snapping kingpins tend to have heavier weights, so the cause of failure seems to be largely influenced by weight.

So one of potential causes of KP breakage is concentrated pressure on the edge of the KP hole on the baseplate? I have a rear slalocybin, never removed the KP but if I will do it, I will probably smooth that part, thanks!

Hi Giovanni, Yes, that is my understanding. I do not think it is necessary to do this on rear truck as I've only seen report of snapped kingpin on front truck. I think rear kingpin usually has low pivot angle(eg 20*) so the kingpin does't get much pressure.

Hi, how did it work out. Any kingpin snaps till date or is it still too early to determine?
