let me clarify for those who didn't understand the prologue, Sun wukong has already completed his journey to the west (that was after 500 years of his imprisonment) and become the buddha of Victorious Fighting (that's why wukong said "his master (the Tang monk) is safe and the scriptures (the sutras) are sound". the man/god he fought in the beginning was Erlang Shen (The god with mystical third eye, Warrior god with a celestial dog as sidekick and most all Wukong's biggest rival) and why the heavenly court still came after him because they probably disliked the fact that he still roams free (doesn't yield to the heavens and the fact they were still bitter about Wukong's rampage after so many years). so wukong is no more, pieces of him (his relics) are scattered to the wind, your role as "the destined one" is to embark on a journey, find Wukong's lost relics and restore them back at the stone of his birth at Mount Huaguo. It’s interesting to see how the story in the game will turn out, at the end of Journey to the west, monkey king joined budda doing so also removed his head band that restrains him, so in a way the story in the game so far feels like a plot hole especially since monkey king is literally invulnerable, but I guess this is what’s necessary for the game’s story, you play as a nerfed monkey king like character since playing as the actual monkey king would probably be too boring cos he’s so overpowered. This is a totally new story and I’m excited to finish the game!

What we just saw was End of Z Goku getting the Broly headband placed a top of his head right before Zamasu (really Tien but let’s just say Zamasu) hit him with a killing blow. They literally went to absurd lengths to jam him up, isolate him from his loved ones, antagonize him, then killed him. On top of that Son Goku clearly says that his people were being massacred so they also Uchiha’d him… an all around mess of an opening

I remember years ago, when we weren't sure if this game was real or if the teaser was a tech demo or simply too good to be true due to insane graphics and gameplay. They went silent and released then released real trailers and people got hyped but still no one had ever heard of the dev studio so a lot of people were skeptical. Now that it's out, it really is as epic as its first impression and lived up to the hype.

They also started off broke. They didn't have enough money to boot their idea to life and they lacked alot of manpower. So there was no real game at first. They started off as a small company and in 2 years time sponsors, support all flooded in and they kickstarted shit FAR. Now they have a full fledged company, dedicated staff and just a middle finger to big corpos who wants to change their passion. I even remember when they were recruiting staff 4 years ago. They had the recruitment notices up on their site wanting Devs who are passionate and knowledgeable of the journey to the west to join them.

我是中国人。当时西游记这本书很多内容就是骂当时中国的统治者嘉靖皇帝的。 西游记里的天庭就是腐朽不堪，一只没修炼多少年的石猴孙悟空都能把天庭搞得天翻地覆。 其实中国古代有几本小说真挺不错。就比如封神榜。好皇帝纣王因为摸了一下女娲的雕像就让女娲觉得纣王对自己不敬。排下妖精妲己魅惑纣王让纣王成为恶人祸乱自己的国家。里面的神仙都很虚伪无耻。虽然现在来看一般，但是500年前设定还是很不错了。 里面还有不少天马行空的想象。比如纣王手下一个大臣有不死之身，他的心脏埋藏在隐秘的地下，只有把心脏找到从地里挖出来才能杀死他。跟加里比海盗里的设定很像😂

Ok imma try to give as most context as I can: Long time ago there’s was a rock born from heaven sitting in a mountain, one day a monkey was born out of it, he latter founds a group of monkeys and he becomes their king later the monkey releases that he’s not immortal so he goes in a journey to be imortal, in the way he learns tricks from a teacher in a town, that gives him abilities to transform and duplicate ect, (this is where he gets the name of Sun wukong) until one day Wukong broke his teacher promise of not ever using his abilities to be famous, so the teacher kicks him out, wukong decides to continue his journey of power and immortality, he keep fighting demons and exploring until he founds a palace underwater, he goes in and ask for a weapon he almost didn’t found one until the king gave wukong the magic staff, but wukong wanted armor too so the king, scared called other palaces, they came thinking they were going to fight until the king told them to not engage “he’s too strong,” so they all agree and give wukong pieces of armor, after wukong leaves the kings tells what happens to the gods of heaven and “hell” and they obviously get pissed off so hell takes wukong there, wukong founds a type of temple that has a book, on that books there’s the names of every creatures so he founds his name and the names of his family’s and cross them, this gives wukong 1 point of imortality, after this he goes back to his family but heaven not trusting wukong tells him to come to heaven, wukong agrees, the gods give wukong the job of a stable man, for wukong he thought this was amazing but in reality this was the worst rank on heaven, wukong gets super pissed and leaves, he gets back home and to wukong it’s been just a few months but for his family it’s been years, so they throw a party, the gods (trying to control Wukong) tells wukong to come back that they have a higher rank job to give to Wukong, wukong again agrees and goes, the job is basically to protect a tree, that tree has the peaches of immortality, and it’s wukong job to protect it, wukong agrees and protects the tree until one day a group of ladies come to the tree, asking wukong for a few peaches, wukong ask why and they tell him that the gods are having a party and he is not invited, after the ladies leave Wukong gets super pissed to he eats all of the peaches, this makes him immortal by a bunch of times then he goes to the party (which it haven’t started) and drinks the kings wine of immortality he also goes to the kitchen and eats a bunch of pill of immortality he founds, after he sobers up he relies in the amount of problems he is in so he runs away back to his family, the gods of heaven extremely pissed wants to kill Wukong so Wukong and a group of soldiers that he has goes and fights a bunch of gods he ends up wining so the king had to call Buddha, a then buddha puts in a prison for 500 yrs. One day a monk named Tang Sanzang was “talking to Buddha” aperently there was a war going on and they had to stop it, Buddha gives the monk Tang Sanzang a bunch of scriptures, if someone ever read those scriptures they would be come peaceful no matter what, but there’s was a problem he had to go to the west and a bunch of demons wants to kill Tang Sanzang because they believe they will be immortal if they do this, so Buddha gives Tang Sanzang a group of body guards first (Sun Wukong) then a god that haves been kicked from heaven then cursed to turned into a half human half pig (Zhu Bajie), and a cursed half human half fish (Sha Wujing) before they left Buddha put on them a golden headband, this would help Tang Sanzang so if they tried something the golden headband would squeeze causing a lot of pain. this formed the trio that would help Tang Sanzang through the journey to the west. (I’m going to skip ahead because I would be texting this all day) when they finally get to the west the trio are finally set free and found peace, this is where black myth wukong kicks in, after wukong comes back to his family for some reason the gods of heaven started killing wukongs family, this pisses a lot wukong so he goes amd tries to fight them but loses, a few centuries later a recantation of sun wukong is born called the destined one, his job is to find all wukong artifacts to posibly revive him. This took ages to type, sorry if I was wrong in some stuff (I’m new to jurney to the west) I would appreciate if you found something wrong to tell me since I’m also learning, also sorry if my English isn’t perfect I’m still learning, I had to skip a loooot of stuff from journey to the west because the book is really really long, but I really recommend it, also I really recommend this game, I stared playing and it’s amazing. Edit: (SPOILER) don’t read this if you haven’t beat the game. just finished the game and if you didn’t understand here’s is my opinion on what the ending was, there’s currently 2 endings one is the bad ending and the other one is the true ending. When you enter the rock it’s reveal the sun wukong always had the golden headband and cause lots of pain, after jurney to the west the gods tricked him into thinking that he doesn’t have the golden headband anymore, he comes back to his maintain but the gods didn’t trust sun wukong so they started killing his own people sun wukong gets mad and fights the gods, that’s were the golden headband activates and makes sun wukong loose, sun wukong dies, some people say that he killed himself others say the he didn’t really die only his body the point is that he looses and the gods separates parts of wukong into 6 pieces called relics, the important part is that one relic is missing, that relic is us that’s why we look exactly like sun wukong, the old monkey wanted the destined one to find all the relics so he becomes the new sun wukong, after the old monkey explains all of that we found sun wukong but this version of sun is like a dead version of him, the destined one fights him and wins wich makes the destined one the new sun Wukong, after the fight the old man puts the golden head band on this new sun wukong witch means that we basically replace sun wukong place and now we are the ones trapped in the rock that’s why this is the bad ending because we are being controlled by gods and trapped on the rock with the golden headband on, (some people thinks that the old man may be working with the gods to have a more controlled version of sun Wukong but this is just a theory nothing is confirmed). now the true ending, you can only get it if you fight the secret bosses in one of the chapter, basically you fight all of the big massive gods and Erlang that were controlling sun wukong, after that when you go back to the rock and go inside after defeating sun wukong the old man doesn’t put the golden headband on this new sun wukong, witch signifies that he’s not getting controlled by the gods and he’s also not trapped in the rock, something that sun wukong always wanted, after that we get a séquense of the old sun wukong memories, this animation story is being told from the end to the start it’s basically backwards. Don’t be sad technically sun wukong isn’t 100% dead, sun wukong is part of this destined one, it’s almost like if a father gives his son his armor. there so many theories on what this ending truly means and what the destined one (sun wukong) will do next, hopefully we get more endings on dlc or updates .

Some background information about General Yang and the opening: 1) He is the nephew of the Emperor Jade of the Celestial Court. His mother was banished to a prison under the Huashan Mountain. He later became powerful and break her free with his Magical Ax and Magical Lantern. And mother and son united. 2) Although he hates Emperor Jade, he eventually accepted an arrangement with the Emperor that he will accept request but not order from the Celestial Court. In another word, he is HALF FREE. 3) Monkey is his friend. General Yang knows the monkey is NOT FREE. The physical headband (the magical controlling tool) on Monkey's head is removed by Budha but the magic remains, just in case he goes rogue again. 4) Deep down, the Monkey knows the headband is still there controlling him. But General Yang is envious yet supportive of Monkey to go TOTALLY FREE. The talks in this fight is filled with information that only these two brothers know the meaning. At the end, Monkey made up his mind to get killed, in order to be free. And his brother, General Yang helped him complete the wish. You can see how emotionless General Yang has, as it is a mixture of sadness, admiration, and understanding underneath the surface. 5) Gerneral Yang helped break the Monkey into 6 relics after his death, and spread them across the realm. At this point, the Monkey is TOTALLY FREE. 6) Generations later, a new Monkey rises to collect these relics and become the new Monkey King. For the Old Monkey King, he is dead but his spirit lives on in this new Monkey, who is no longer being controlled, by either Budha (religion) and the Celestial Court (government). Journey to the West is a story about FREEDOM, TRUE FREEDOM. Now some information about the ENDING Animation ... if you have not seen it yet: In the FINAL ENDING animation, when the spirit of the old Monkey king picked up that magical headband, he paused and did not put it on the new Monkey. The new Monkey kneeled. He is excited that he will be the new Monkey king, inheriting everything, the power AND THE HEADBAND. He did not realize how serious that moment was. Free or Not free. He did not even know. The old monkey knows. And story ends at a cliff hanger, as that is how humanity is ... we don't know how precious something is until we lose it, or we don't know how devilish something is, until we resume it.

The saving grace is, that the cutscene moves to the ending animation about the life of the Monkey King. And most likely, the memory has been implanted in the new monkey as you can see that red glimpse from the new monkey and that he raised his head (a gesture of refusal for the headband). So most likely he will refuse the headband at the last moment. We don't know. But I think that is the cliff hanger is for. Open for interpretation.

I love all the comments giving details into Wukong's legend. The game devs did a great job with incorporating those details in the game. Even the plucking of his hair to make his clowns and create the pole so much love in this game. I love that they didn't use a deep voice for him too, he's a trickster carefree kind of soul. He wouldn't be intimidating at first sight and therefore if he spoke he wouldn't have a voice that was intimidating either. It would be something more annoying or slick, in this case his voice sounds carefree like the character himself. His intimidation is in his fight and ability to overthrow entities so much bigger and stronger than him. I can also say that I am eternally grateful to the game devs for continuing on this journey to complete this game. When it was first announced/teased I kept expectations tampered (not lowered). It was a great reveal so I wanted to believe in them but being a gamer in today's climate with all the political agendas seeping in I didn't want to get my hopes up. In case the powers that wannabe try to make superficial changes that would ruin the game (as it seems they tried but failed thankfully), and now that it's out I can breath easy and be thankful these devs did their shit. As a new group too they really are out here to solidify themselves and show how the game industry is really failing. Why does it take an unknown group to show the industry how it should be done? Ya'll have been here for how many decades? All the well known game dev studios; it's probably time for the old relics to just move aside for new and fresh faces and ideas.

Elder Jinchi was a greed one, not a faithful monk, cuz monk can't be greed, but he chose to practice Buddhism, he climbed to be Elder Jinchi (The pagoda's leader), as the greed monk, he likes to collect beautiful kasayas (Buddhism's monk robes). Black Bear Guai is yaoguai but likes to practice Buddhism, and he made friend with Elder Jinchi so he could listen to Buddhist scriptures, he learnt and became powerful yaoguai (merely wild animal can practice long enough to be Celestial or Buddha). With Black Bear's help, Elder Jinchi's lifespan extended, living to nearly 300 years old. When Tang Sanzang and Son Wukong came to Elder Jinchi's Quanyin pagoda in the journey to the West, the Jinchi and the Bear saw Tang Sanzang's kasaya, and that made their greed arise. The Jinchi and Black Bear both wanted the kasaya, and Black Bear has more spell and power than the Jinchi, he burned the Quanyin pagoda and stolen the kasaya

I discovered that if you don’t know the journey to the west story (I only know the gist of it), that if you really want to understand what’s going on you need to read the enemy descriptions. There’s a lot of story beats that you just won’t get without reading them, like understanding everything with Jichei, the bear, and the big wolf. Like apparently the wolf wasn’t the original jiexuei, but a wolf that came with the bear, because the bear brought the original back from the dead but left right after, leading the bear to appoint a new one to control the wolves of the mountain, meaning he’s still around, and if you read the whiteclad noble part we discover he talked with the original wolf about his resurrection and the nature of it, and that’s just that part of the story, the more important part I think is the part with jichei because that I think was apart of the original journey, hence you got the mantle from it. Just saying it’s important to read the enemy/character information

Definitely winning game of the year for 2024 because no other game tops in graphics and gameplay, story is always a plus but you don’t even remember what you need to be doing half the time due to the fun and exciting quests

this story is after the tale that he once messed up the entire celestial palace.. then he got jailed by the big buddha for 500years.. and then released by his master/teacher/ and got nerf by the crown ring thing... later succesfully escort his master to get the scriptures along with his 3 other lil brother/ "the pig the kappa and the dragon horse" returned and rise up and became the victorious battle buddha... now black myth wukong is like alternative side story after their journey to the west ended.. i think.. haha and for the last part before wukong crown ring thing activated.. well i dont know how it activated.. guess "er lang shen" the 3 eye guy.. got the password from his master monk tang.. as the person who possess password to activate the nerf ring so far as i know only his master "monk" and a buddha "guan yin" last but not least the rock... is not just A rock.. its the Rock.. once name seven colored celestial stone.. that a goddess "nu wa" use it to patching the heaven back together that once got broken by outside realm demon.. i think anyway and the left over celestial stone that got left nearby the mountain hua guo.. then turn into wu kong.. that was even back storyyyyyyy before the celestial got messed up.. haha simply said wukong is basically divine from the begining.. and he cannot die.. just that his souls got dispersed into everywher like dragon ball thing..since then sealed..
