Until now I never thought of exactly _why_ the black wish hole started lashing out in the first place, until I realized it only happened after Deckard put his donut through and touched its surface. Since the worker puts their hopes into the donuts in the wish that someone wants them, what if Deckard's conflicted wishes to stay with Bee at the cost of sabotaging his own baking dreams led the black wish hole to destroy the nearest semblance of that baking dream? It's probably far-fetched, but sounded like the closest thing to an explanation for me, and the idea of that being the cause it sounds so interesting!

(stolen from someone else) the donut's effect depends on the intentions of the one who made it. the worker was positive, so it brought joy to the ones who ate it; Deckard was depressed so it caused the black hole to wreak havoc. I don't think it's been confirmed why deckard's donut caused the black hole to freak out, so it's still up to speculation 🤷‍♂️

Good catch. I think it functions as a special fuel/building component. At 8:39 and 8:45, her arm is being fed a stream of what looks like the birthday candy while it is being repaired. So I guess every year she'll just need a little bit to grow up given that she doesn't get majorly damaged.

Oh damn did anyone notice the parallels to the pilot ep? In the first episode bee has a dream where she reaches for puppycat but he scratches her, revealing ribbons before she falls. The black hole broke bees arm, revealing the ribbons helping her run, and she fell off the shard of ground she was standing on

I think the Donuts change based on the person who makes it, as the person who makes it molds a bit of themselves into it(, like cooks giving their dishes their own personal touch). Then what you get in return depends on the donut, and in lieu, th person. The worker was kind and put his hopes and dreams into it. He only sometimes got something back when he put his donut in as hopes and dreams aren't always fulfilled or rewarded. What he got back was often kindness and gratitude, represented by the teddy bear. Deckard was struggling with depression, confusion and apathy to the world around him. So when he put his donut in, what he got back was a black void of hands; because depression drags hopes and dreams in and destroyed Deckard's dream of being a baker (represented by the black hands detroying the donut-shaped cooking planet). Bee was a bit odd. She is a colorful individual who was always holding sadness in her heart from lonliness, feeling different and alienated; and she felt lost with no direction for her future. She didn't put the donut into the black hole, but the effects of the donut she gave away was "what she got back".(The black hole is a means to give it to someone out in the universe, and Bee gave hers away.) What her donut did was change things and make things more colorful and different. When fed to the mother, the donut changed her, but also made her cry jellyfish (from the story of the octopus and princess), which represented sadness, longing and lonliness.

There's so many things I love about this series. One of my favorites is their portrayal of character development, or the lack thereof. I feel as though these characters have barely changed over the course of the entire series, and yet we still feel drawn to them and the mysteries surrounding them. The only thing that has changed is how much we know about these characters, and yet thats the thing - we know almost nothing about each of them. ---spoilers below---- This is the first time we see Deckard's family. This is the first real time any of them were even mentioned (other than when he offhandedly said his brothers usually brought the rent in a previous episode). And I had no idea he was depressed either!! The entire series he always seemed a little shy and anxious, but I would attribute that to him being nervous around Bee because he liked her. He was always so supportive of Bee and absorbed in what he did when he got cooking, and yet his sister said "he's depressed in pants" as though none of his other family members ever saw him enjoying himself before. (Also hitting on the fact that his brother thought that depression was so easily fixable, which is a FANTASTIC portrayal of how people irl can treat it but that's not the main point rn). Is the "wizard" in his name important? Does Cass actually like her job? (Probably not, she's just good at it). What else is going on with Deckard's family? What about that wrestler who know's Cass? Puppycat, at the beginning of this series, was so self absorbed and tried to show himself off as tough. He still does, but we can see that he also pays close attention to when people really need him (basically whenever Bee mentions her dad). He's a softy at heart although he tries not to show it, but why is he trying so hard to be tough? Is there something in his past following him (we know that he's the prince/outlaw, but we know absolutely nothing else about the specifics). The story he said said that the prince turned into a monster. Is his current form the monster, or does he look like something else that we just can't see yet? Did he name himself Puppycat because he has no idea what the heck he is either? lolol Cardamon gave the donut to his mother, rather than ate it himself, because he wanted to see what her wish was. He wanted to know if she wished to wake up and be with him, or if she wanted something else. (Seeing that her wish wasn't to wake up absolutely broke his heart. It made him feel useless and vulnerable, like he isn't worth enough for her to get her life back. Like he wasn't enough for her). It was a very adult decision to do, especially with the fact that he looks what, maybe 10 years old? How long has his mother been asleep, that he understands that when Bee's toilet is broken it's his responsibility to fix it? That his house is such a mess and he's got huge eyebags and he has to freaking collect rent because no one else is there to do it? That when he see's the donut change the colors of his dog, he suddenly gets that childlike spark of hope and runs to his mother? That he's still waiting for her to wake up at all? And does no one else ever come to his house to help take care of his mother, to help clean up or cook or take care of bills, to give him a few minutes to act like a kid? And what happened to his mom? What is Bee hiding under all those giggles and jokes? She's insecure about her "purpose" in life, about if she's useful for anything at all, and she feels horrible for being the reason Deckard hid his acceptance letter. She has so, so much hiding inside her that she's just so terrified to let out (kudo's to Puppycat for not asking about her arm or her past, but instead trying to get to know her as a person. Like her being a robot doesn't matter to him just as much as him being an outcast doesnt matter to her.) Bee's face when big cat was being sucked into the black hole was nothing less than terrified (3:50). She's terrified of losing people she loves, definitely because of something that happened in her past. Is she somehow the reason as to why her dad is not there? What happened to her dad, that he saw so far ahead of his time that he built a dad box to fix her when he was gone? Does she age? What happens if she touches water (like, major consequence)? Why was Pretty Pete on the train? What happened to Big Cat? Why did the hands come out of the black hole in the first place (although plenty of theories on that is in the comment section). Who is Temp bot, and how are they acquaintanced with Puppycat? There are so many questions left unanswered, and this episode created way more questions than they could have based on the initial seemingly goofy and plot nonexistence feel of the first episode. And I'm all for it.

Because she is a robot? She wasn't consciously aware, at least I didn't think she was the few times I watched, she seemed jut as shellshocked as everyone else when it all happened, but you saw how she behaved when her arm broke, eyes glitching, nearly automatic and entirely unnatural motion, I am assuming some form of programming or coding was designed to guide her back to her box, either automatically or as a directive that she in sheer confusion would follow, and when pc found her she said there was a lot we don't know about each other, but it felt like she hadn't known herself, or she just found out a lot more then she was a robot, perhaps memories about how she became a robot... If she was ever human... and also the only reason she electrocuted the fryer was because of exposed wiring, that wouldn't be a reason to never go in water... You can make counter points to all this, by all means go for it, it just felt like the emotional impact was her realising what she was and not knowing how to deal with it... Of course if she knew she was a robot then a lot of the emotional impact is just oh no people know my secret what'll I do... not as strong as what am I... and who was my dad... and how did this happen... and what do I do now... Her not knowing she was a machine literally built by her father makes her finding out so much more overwhelming and heavy, rather then deckard knows shes a robot oops... She didnt seem bothered when he found out her secret job did she... Why would her being a robot be any different to her magic dangerous job?

this series seems like a dream. like it's interesting because it genuinely does seem like a concept a CHILD thought of, but thats what makes it so good. When you're young you do things for fun not for the sake of doing them, like everyone in this show does. Also kids tend to take things literally because you only hear about metaphors and stuff when you get older, so everything that they say that you think is a metaphor, is literal. "I sure hope you're not broke" He literally hopes she didn't break, not the expression for having no money, which is what adults would think of vs a child. "Dont you think it's weird she hasn't grown up yet?" She's stayed the same age because shes a robot, not hasn't matured. When she says she wants to be EVERYTHING, she literally becomes everything. She's a temp worker, so she does a new job everyday. Also her job is HELPING people. Most kids don't really understand what their parents do, they just know that they help people. The way this show is literally something only the perspective of a child can think up is beautiful.

The primary creator, Natasha Allegri, is 35, so definitely not still a child and would have had to deal with many of the adult problems of this show like work. Honestly, the fact that most of the characters are in their 20s and that the focus isn't on grade school, but rather on jobs and living on your own, make it rather unique among shows like this, especially Magical Girl shows. That said, you do have a point that it seems to have a relatively childish perspective on these adult issues that you might not expect from a 35 year-old. I have theories on why this might be the case, but a youtube comment probably isn't the best place to talk about that and it's generally bad form to make guesses about an artist's psychology based on their work.

Even after watching the final episode, I was left with "so, she's... what, a robot?" Maybe I was just being unobservant at the time, but the clues just didn't add up. At the time that the episodes first came out, there was a long gap while they figured out the studio that was going to produce the show, and then the episode previews came in long gaps between each other so I lost the thread. Coming back now and watching all of them in sequence as they were meant to be released just made everything clearer, if that makes any sense?

There's also her not liking water, some weird gadgets in her room, Deckard one time saying "Woah, it's like you're bones are made of metal," her being way too strong, which is very apparent in a few moments, etc. It's not really enough to conclude that she was a robot, so I think people got the info from somewhere, but there were definitely hints, and it became more and more clear as the season went on.

I had the same impresion that toast is going to be a great character but at the same time toast felt out of place on the story board.
