Our agency just lost a 29 year old deputy. She had a 3 month old baby at home. She missed her first Mother’s Day by a week. Her name was Deputy Kaitie Leising. She managed to return fire and radio it in after taking one to the chest and being mortally wounded. Help those that go down and get back up. Remember those that go down and are lost. The below comes with permission from the Wilt Family: We are pleased to share an update on Officer Nickolas Wilt, who was shot 4 weeks ago today when responding to Old National Bank shooting. Officer Wilt's condition has been improving steadily all week, and he remains on the correct path to recovery. We are happy to announce that Officer Wilt is officially off the ventilator and all other life-sustaining equipment. Additionally, he has shown neurological improvement and is able to follow some commands. While Officer Wilt is currently dealing with a few infections, he also shows improvement in those areas. Unfortunately, Officer Wilt still has pneumonia and other lung complications. His progress to this point is remarkable, especially when compared to where he was just two weeks ago. Officer Wilt is entering the "long haul" of his recovery, which will undoubtedly be difficult, but he remains strong and determined. We are proud to report that doctors are now talking about getting Officer Wilt into Neuro Rehab within the next week, which is a significant milestone in his recovery process. During a procedure today, it’s been determined the bullet is not a threat to the brain or its blood vessels. According to the doctor, the bullet is in a crucial area but for this type of injury the damage is minimal. The Wilt family and the entire (LMPD) family want to thank everyone for their tremendous amount of support and well wishes during this difficult time. We will continue to provide significant updates on Officer Wilt's condition as they become available. -Louisville Metro Police Department

Don't do it. A person that can't decide to join or not, is indecisive. You would not make a great officer. I am military and one of our qualities is we "jump into action". Just support the officers from home. A weak link kills the chain.
@wyattplayzgaming
@wyattplayzgaming Жыл бұрын
The person above this comment makes a fair point, however, there are programs to help you decide if police work is a good fit for you. If you are under 21 check if your local police department or sheriff's office has an explorer program. It's a good way to get involved with policing, learn about it, how to do it, and ultimately if that's what you want to do in life. Hope something there helped. Don't get discouraged by people online, but don't totally ignore them either. Take it into consideration but make your own decisions considering, after all, it's your life.

The guy with the rifle should probably retire after getting borderline getting the rookie killed. Leading the rookie in front of a glass wall he couldnt see through was an egregious mistake that was OBVIOUSLY going to go bad. He could have circled around, using the stairs as cover until he could get a look through the entrance. Instead, he abandoned cover in exchange for walking in front of glass he couldnt see through. Now we got a rookie with a bullet in his head. Edit: Those of you who are thinking that I meant for the cops to pull a Uvalde and stay put outside have no clue what youre talking about. The goal here is to get in a position to BEST enter the premises. You dont leave cover to walk in front of glass. You circle behind cover until you can get a look at the door, and you move POINTING YOUR RIFLE where youre exposed. Additionally, those of you who are saying that in such situations one "just has to go" are total morons. Guess who cant kill bad guys? Dead cops. At some point you have to risk your life. But that doesnt mean you have to soviet bumrush until you get shot up. Guys, THINK. And you're arguing for a tactic that CLEARLY FAILED. Walking in front of the glass made it a turkey shoot for the shooter.

Donut, I was born and raised in Louisville, and still live within 30-45 minutes of the city. Most of my family still lives there. This was a tragic day for our town, for all involved, especially, and their loved ones, but also for everyone from the Derby City. Thank you for covering it without sensationalizing it, and for hailing all the officers-most especially Officer Wilt-for the heroes they are. And thank you so much for your personal donation. I know I'm nobody, relatively speaking, but this being my hometown, your compassion really touched my heart. By the way, as someone below said, Officer Wilt is doing well. He still has a long fight ahead of him, but he's speaking, laughing, standing, and making more improvements every day. My continued prayers are with him and his family, with the victims and their families, and with the shooter's mother-she lost her son, after all. Thank you for this video.

the 2nd was the most valuable, didn't mess around, gave the info needed and where she was located. the 1st was total hysteric, i get being in a panic, but she wasn't actively there, so i would expect a more calm approach in that sense. I would swap #1 and 2 around in terms of response, but i'm guessing for caller 2 it was more survival instincts kicking in, knowing that if you panic, he might find you and execute you on the spot, this info does a lot to a person so that they can supress their natural behaviour.

I couldn’t even imagine. You birth this human and raise it. Love it with all your heart. Only to one day get a phone call from his roommate that he left a note saying he’s going to his work with a gun to kill people and in that moment you know you have to call the police because it may save lives, while also knowing that by doing so, you may be getting him in serious trouble if he didn’t actually go through with it or it was some kinda weird joke. But also knowing that if it’s true, you’re losing your son in some way. Either by him being shot and killed by the police or himself, or being arrested and put in prison forever. Plus suddenly learning that your child who you never thought could do something like that could now be responsible for ending multiple people’s lives at the same time. I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself.

Not to mention the brave officer who took a bullet to the head who was just serving his community trying to keep it safe. And how many nightmares do they think his partner will have from the feeling of not being able to pull him off there and treat his wound? This shits gotta stop. More guns in the hands of the good guys = less crime. God bless the officers who saved the rest. And God bless the victims who were injured, and may the ones who passed be woth Him in heaven now. @@daimincolon150 while the officer did what he thought was right, and is brave to try to do so, he really shouldn’t have done that… he was 10 days clear of the academy, and him getting hit pushing a building with an active shooter that had glass that was blacked out you couldn’t see into the bank is the wrong call, he could have gotten his other officer into serious danger because he got hit in a terrible spot, and they go try to help him and end up getting shot too. Trying to be the hero, if it goes well, is all fine and dandy, but if it doesn’t, it can put many more peoples lives in grave danger. With that being said, I truly hope he makes a full and speedy recovery, no one deserves that to happen to them; and while his decision to push was the wrong one, he still did so with the right intentions.

It’s very interesting to see how different people respond to different situations. Caller 1 is panicking very hard, even though she’s safe in another location, but Called 2 is a little panicking but mainly calm, and she’s in the building that it’s happening. I love to see the different POV’s and reactions from the callers and the cops. Good job to the cops that took the shooter out without any hesitation, and I hope Officer Wilt makes a steadfast and great recovery from his injuries
