@Tyler Collins yeah actually we can. You have no idea what your rights are... you can be arrested on accident i.e. you meeting a description of a criminal and then when confirmed you aren't who we think you can be cut loose. If you resist during your arrest wether justified or not you will catch the legitimate charge of resisting. About a million idiots like you have thought that ane caught charges because you wanted to be a street lawyer.

My first job at 15 was McDonalds and the local PD would come get “prisoner meals” for people recently arrested and awaiting transport to jail. It was normal. The local PD doesn’t have a kitchen to make dinner for people. They are not a prison they have holding cells. I’m sure this happens all over.

When I was in high school in 1975, my boyfriend was in the military police (Army). He came home from Ft. Sill one weekend and was really quiet. I could tell he wasn't okay. He finally told me something happened on base the night before and he started to tear up. I asked him what happened and he just broke. There had been a wreck, a drunk soldier coming back onto base hit a car with a mom and a kid in the front seat. Remember, they could have kids in the front at the time and seatbelts were not mandatory yet, and most just didn't think to use them. Drunk hit them so hard that the mom went through the windshield and the kid, who was about 2, had a broken neck from slamming into the dash. He was so upset, and who could blame him. He later went into being K9 officer. I don't think that was excessive force. Quite frankly, he's lucky he wasn't smack on the pavement a few times to convince him that drinking with kids in the car is a VERY bad idea.

@El-ahrairah "Your right to swing your fists ends where my nose begins." They're not there to protect your rights...they're there to make sure your rights don't interfere with the rights of others. "When you have a situation where "laws" mean more than protection of rights, you're out of the running for a free society." Laws do not protect your rights...in fact, rights protect you from laws. There is a big difference. For example: you have a right to own a firearm, but there is no law that entitles you to one. You are born free, and any law is a subtraction from that freedom. Rights are simply protecting your freedom from those laws. So no, police are not there to make sure you do what you have a right to do, they're there to make sure you don't do what you're not allowed to do.

No, it isn't, there's too much leeway. He was smart to cut the sentence off, leaves deniability. If I was caught saying that, and they tried to follow up like that...I'd lie. "No, what I was thinking was, he's lucky I don't have a 40, cause I wouldn't be this calm if I was drunk. You charging me for being a mean drunk?". "I used to be an alcoholic. I was a bad case, and I return to thinking about drinking in times of stress. I wasn't threatening him!" off the top of my head... He didn't have a 40. The threat of "I'll kill your family", is real, for the average Alvarez. Alvarez might have family the guy knows, whatever. That's a thing he could come back and complete. "Wait till I buy a beer around you, later." isn't as threatening.

I completely agree with you on this being necessary force, Donut. I've personally seen the aftermath of DWIs and I'm not even a cop. I was a truck driver, came upon a wreck coming into a yard in Pheonix. 2am, a drunk driver with one passenger was speeding down the road (80+ in a 40) in a black car, with no lights on. Another truck turned in front of the car because he never saw them. The car went right under the trailer, which was loaded with 43,000lbs of freight. The drunk driver of the car survived, the passenger got decapitated by the frame of the trailer. I was one of the first people on the scene. I was 24, and it scared the shit out of me so badly, I couldn't bring myself to move my truck into the yard after the wreck was cleared. I sat there in my sleeper for 2 days before I could even start the engine again.

A lot of them don't. Cops and EMS suffer all the same psychological trauma as combat veterans do, self harm is a huge problem with them when they can't cope. That's one reason the public attitude towards officers these days angers me, they are probably literally causing needless deaths. Imagine suffering from the violent and horrible things you have seen, the frequent danger, the gruesome deaths and you are struggling with ideas of ending your own life only to see constant criticism from the media and social media basically saying that society hates you, doesn't appreciate what you have done for them, endlessly watching for ways to trip you up and catch you somehow, wishing death on you, calling you racist and a thug, even people who ought to know better and who can only sleep safely at night because of you, what does that do to you?
