I have easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials "do it yourself" (DIY) videos to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers and zero turn mowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed whacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, zero turn mower, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on KZbin and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!
I want "DON THE SMALL ENGINE DOCTOR" on KZbin to save you time, frustration and most importantly, MONEY with my HOW-TO videos!

Tips to anyone out there practicing with these. Tips for your safety, don’t hold that rod with your hand. Practice without using your hand. Remember that’s live currents in your hand, don’t get in the habit because the day those gloves get wet, or the day you feel daring to hold it bare handed for a quick spot. You will die. Other tip preheat metal before the weld. Be creative since you’re new I’d recommend a small butane torch. Torch the spots you want to weld and hit it. That’s how you can arc easier without getting stuck for smoother welds my friend. Good luck

The cleaner the surface the better the weld will always be. Plate thickness takes more power to create enough heat in that much metal. A thicker rod will take a bit more power. Smaller rod for thinner metal, less power.

Yes, you might have to slow down with your travel & watch the molten pool as you weld as well as cleaning the loose & flaky paint & rust off that crack on the auger to reduce porosity, you might have to stitch weld the thinner metal a bit meaning wait for the molten pool to cool down a bit to prevent the welder from blowing holes through the metal. With the 1/4" thick plate maybe chamfer the metal a little bit so you can do a fillet weld. I did a small welding & thermal cutting course which included marking out at tech 30 years ago while I was at high school . The other course was an automotive course, the next year which was my last year of high school I studied a small carpentry & the introduction to the electrical trade course !

I took a vocation class in high school at 14 and learned how to arc weld. Pooling is the key. I was taught to push the pool in a circular or swaying motion. I didn't see that on his weld. I seen other videos of using this unit and had perfect beads. Also, l have never seen anyone arc weld thin metal like that.

The taller the bead, the less penetration your getting. Everyone needs to take a welding class and test their welds to see how they really do. Most people will be surprised at their poor welds that look okay on the surface. You can take those classes temporarily for cheap and not have to do a full course.

thanks Dony, The variability in your welds could be due to the rods. On the farm here we have a 250 AMP AC stick welder and 6013 rods are easier to use than 7018 which I recall is low-hydrogen and works better in a DC welder. But it does give you a stronger weld once you get used to it. I think the inverter is AC. John in Manitoba

If I didn't buy a complete Miller setup before prices got silly, I'd just take whatever it was I needed welded to my local welder and pay him about the cost of this unit to do it for me. My father and I had an electric welder, spot welder, acetylene torch, etc. in our autobody shop but I would have jumped on something like this if it was available at the time. This would have been excellent for small welding jobs in confined areas. Easy to set up and use plus I really like the trigger control. BTW I am a Canadian and I live in Alberta. dont, oh, i am a pro welder. It's just a stupid idea to have the entire welding machine in your hand. The weight take away control of the rod while welding. And in hard to reach places also the sight on your weld. You can find better welders for the same price at discounters. The best thing you can do is to look a and old used pro stick welding machine for the same price or a little more. And dont mind the weight, the heavier the better. That means they have a copper coil around a cast iron core. Those are the most stable and controllable welders.

pin this Don. When anyone sends you something free for review you never know if buyers will get the same quality. It would be so easy for a Chinese manufacturer to run off a few hundred items to mail out to KZbin influencers better made than normal production, would they do that?

Dont, you will be wasting you money. For around the same price there are stick welders build the traditional way, those are much better. All that size in your had take away sight on your weld in corners, the weight make it hard to control. You cant roll this between your fingers if you weld around a tube. I know, i used to be a professional welder in the oil industry as well as ship building.

Nice video Dony, for you're viewers to know about Temu, I have spent thousands of dollars on hundreds of orders from tools to fishing poles and lures and household items and I am happy with their excellent service and quality items and if there is a damaged or missing item in you're order they will credit, replace or Refund you're money whatever you want to do, the products they sell are good quality In my opinion at the fraction of the cost You would be elsewhere In the U,S.

Thanks for the info on Temu. I recently saw their site and because of the very low prices I've been hesitant to order anything wondering if they were legit. Because of your comment I'll take a second look.

One thing I never hear people talk about on these kinds of videos is if you don’t use good Eye protection you can really get your eyes burned from the welding glare. It is a must to have a good lens and to not have a leak in the sheilds where the lenses connect into the shield. If you ever get burned eyes you will know what I’m talking about but just imagine sand in your eyes. And it doesn’t go away for hours. I went through this years ago and trust me it does not feel good. If it ever happens to you you will never forget it.

I think that's great, for the price. Then got to thinking of my generator s started with 1500 watts,(not enough), then 3,800watts (not enough), now have 10,000 (more than enough). Think I'll get medium sized when it comes to my welder and hope I end up with a good one

With just seeing this demo I wouldn't go more than 3/32 rod 6011 or 6013, not knowing specs on amps and volts for each setting or duty cycle could be less than 10%

I couldn't help but notice that the input power was 4.6 KW. My 120V output is rated for 20 Amps. I used a KW to Amps converter to find out that I would need a 38.3 amp circuit breaker to operate this tool. Is that right? I've been wrong before but??? Maybe in the country where this tool comes from the calculations are different.

I am not a professional welder either but my coworker (25 years experience in welding) taught me how to weld and buy the appropriate tools, now I own 220v Lincoln stick welder for all-day heavy use and a 120v stick inverter welder for small welds that I carry in my work truck. I am in construction. I personally wouldn't trust that, not even for free.

Looking at the definition of inverter welder. It states that it is a DC welder. So what is the polarity. As a Welding Technologist, some rods prefer strait polarity and others reverse polarity. This may be where some welding on these videos goes not so good. For example a 6010 is a reverse only rod. Is this machine set to reverse. As for general welding the rule is strait polarity more heat on the plate, and reverse if you want more heat on the rod. I think I might have to buy one of these.

dNice video Don if Jake and i did not have the MIG and TIG welders in the shop at EP we would have likely ordered one. For the cost this for sure fits the small DIYer shop and if a homeowner needs a deck weld repair this unit is basically paid for itself instead of needing to take to a shop for welding.
