Another tip is if you lose a finger or toe or some similar body part, don't put it on ice if you want to reattach it. It'll do more damage than good since the digit now doesn't have your body heat to keep it warm.

The reattached body part thing is true. I know a guy who had his finger cut off at work and a surgeon just stitched it back. Said to give it some time and the blood vessels reattach after a couple days. It doesn’t look the same as before but it still works like normal

Huh, actually almost relatable for once. I didn't need to go to the ER, but the Fire Dept was required. There was some kids activity at a playground where you stick your finger into a hole and use that to rotate gears, mine got stuck. Like hard stuck, can't really remember how damaged my finger got beyond "it stayed in one piece".

My mom accidentally shut the door on me while my fingers was on the hinge part. I cried but mom didn't immediately look at me coz I apparently pissed her off (I don't remember this btw, my older sister who was there just told me about it) but when she eventually did my sister said she went pale af and immediately opened the door. Idk what they did afterwards but I still have all my fingers lol. One thing tho, I did have a fear of my fingers getting stuck on the hinge part when I was a kid but I didn't know why until my sister told me about that story.

Concerning limb reattachment, it's far from certain to work. The cut has to be clean, the messier it is, the less chance you can get it attached, and there may be loss of functions. A finger gets cut by a sharp kitchen knife, very high chance of getting it back to basically normal. A finger gets chopped off by a chainsaw, they may get it back on but you'll lose mobility and strength from it. A finger gets ripped off by something that isn't made for cutting but physics just said that it come of... yeaaaah no. In that kid's case it probably wasn't that bad, it probably "just" got broken and some teared flesh, but if it got ripped off, no way that kid has a full functioning finger.
