I think it's for cleaning purposes. So you can put it on a syringe. Probably those syringe sizes are easier to find in German stores.

I always thought that the bottomless cartridge is a placeholder. You can put it in the back of the barrel to prevent the real ink cartridge from getting lose and moving.

It is, and it wouldn’t work for that if you filled it first, so I understand and appreciate why they leave the back off. But wish they left the plug in the hole to keep us all from learning while trying to fill it 😂 rite of passage for fountain pen collectors.

I got the Faber castell grip for my daughter years ago, she still uses it regularly. I do prefer it to the Lamy Safari. A great starter pen!

Great review, thanks! The Grip was the pen that converted me to using fountain pens as my everyday, everywhere, writer. I’d never had a pen so comfortable and seemingly made for how I hold my pens! It was my gateway to the wider world of fountain pens and I’m having a ball exploring, even though I’m still in the entry way. Congrats on the 30k followers! I bought a Faber Castell Grip in a M nib as a cheap pen to put an iron gall ink in and was surprised at how much I enjoyed writing with it. Nice smooth nib and I actually really like the rubbery grip.

Congratulations on reaching 30,000 subscribers. I agree with those who love the look of the Neo Slim. I think that would be my first choice of these three pens were I to have that choice. The Ambition would be a close second. I'm not so much into triangular grips because of how I hold a pen. So that would be my third choice, though I would be happy to win any of these pens.

Hi there Mr Doodle, I'm an Australian living in rural Thailand. It's next to impossible to buy fountain pens such as Fabre Castel here. Whilst there are some local online options allowing you to puchase a limited range of Chinese pens anything else is virtually off limits. I've recently returned from Australia with a selection of new pens, ink and notebooks sufficient to keep me entertained until my next trip back to Australia. I'm always surprised by the number of fountain pen reviewers that seem to have next to no ability to write cursive that is readable. It's obvious that many are trying hard to write fluidly with litte success. Your hand writing is a natural version of cursive that is obviously fluid and unpretentious.Enjoy your informative reviews. Keep up the good work!

I have a Faber-Castell Hexo. I wasn't sure of the build quality at first, but now think it is great - always reliable and everything lines up perfectly. The distinctive look of their other pens is what appeals to me, but they are expensive.

Great review as always! I picked up a Faber-Castell Grip from Blesket recently and was very pleasantly surprised with how well it writes. I got a broad nib and it even handles shimmer inks nicely.

Faber Castell fountain pens are criminally underrated, they're probably the best beginner pens out there, their nibs are just perfect. Regarding the bottomless cartridge it's not only FC, last year I bought a couple of Schneider and Divine Design pens and the first thing I noticed on both was that odd cartridge, the seller told me they come like that and they didn't know why 😵‍💫
