I'm so happy I came across Doodle Date. You guys are so adorable and funny and inspiring! I've been having a lot of trouble with my art style and finding motivation recently and you guys really inspire me to try new things and not be afraid of making mistakes. I'm actually working on finishing an old sketchbook I found today with random doodles, not really trying but just having fun! Your videos always make my day and really motivate me to do more and different kinds of art.

I have unorganized art jars, and I just carry them along to wherever I'm going to do art. I have one that holds marker supplies, so copics, a pencil, eraser, sharpener and multiliners. You could do that so all of your brush pens and stuff are in large jars. Yogurt containers (the large ones) are perfect for this.

@CoralineXVermin7 жыл бұрын
The masking fluid is really fun to use once you get the hang of it. You just wait for everything to finish drying then lightly rub it out with something like your finger or even an eraser. I've learned that it only tears the paper if you leave it for prolonged periods of time.
@aprilbrown80817 жыл бұрын
The masking fluid tool is a rubber cement pickup. It’s like a rubbery square and it works fantastically for removing the fluid. You should also check out the Molotow masking fluid marker.

I have so many things to put my art supplies in! I have the pencil case I take everywhere, that contains most of my sketching, inking and coloring pens, but I also got a shoe box in my library that coutains my inks, paints, all the different glues I own, as well as glitter. I think a box is a good way to keep track of art supplies, but I still have two drawers full of stuff on my desk XD

I do Japanese calligraphy and grinding your ink is so theraputic. It's best to use very little water, pressure or speed and just slowly, lightly move the stick in a circle until you get the desired consistency. I imagine for sumi-e painting it needs to be a bit more watery, but for calligraphy you want a nice thick dark ink.

With the ink stick, I found it to be more effective of placing the stick near the pool of water and move it with an up and down movement.

Almost all of the inktober pictures I did in 2016 were using my own made ink. It makes it extremely easy to get almost any shade of grey you need. I also suggest using rice paper as that was essentially designed to be used with sumi ink. For the times I couldn’t be bothered to make it with an ink stick like you guys did, I used a brand called YiDeGe.

I tend to attach supplies via Washi tape to the front cover of a pad of paper or a sketch book. I have my wacom tablet pen taped on the backside of the tablet. Washi tape doesn't leave sticky residue, so whatever it's stuck to does stay clean.

I love painting cherry blossoms, koi, cranes, and bamboo, in black watercolor, so I just bought a chinese caligraphy set and rice parchment. I can't wait until it arrives. Molotow makes masking fluid in a marker form and it works really good. The better the paper you use the less likely the masking fluid will rip it. The masking fluid remover is probably a rubber square I have a rubber square that is a rubber cement remover and it works great for removing masking fluid. If you really like to work in Ink, waterbruses are one tool but if you got a really pointy sable or even a soft synthetic brush they are fun to make some details with -they even sell some nice wash brushes to get a nice even wash. :)
